The install is complete (1.5h of labor @ $150), and I love love love the setup. The sound is deep (just as @Robrowdy said and showed in his video) and the revised look is exactly as I want. Cannot be happier with this setup. Pictures...

Well, @Robrowdy, I just bit the bullet and ordered the aFE pro-dry filter. Another R172 owner has it installed and strongly recommended it, especially in enhancing the exhaust sound... Arrives tomorrow...

This is a public service announcement...

If you have a R172 non-AMG and you want your car to be much more fun to drive, I STRONGLY recommend you upgrade your exhaust to the Fox/Piecha unit with the X-pipe (sans resonator). The sound quality alone is over the top... and the revised/updated look of the car will be icing on the cake... I hear it adds a few HPs as well... (cannot say I feel it but the car certainly responds better with it). I cannot be any happier than I am with this car and its all bcos of the exhaust. Even my local MB dealership guys are very impressed, and these are guys that handle AMGs all day long... they commend the "melodious sound" from the Fox exhaust pipes... their words, not mine...

It is the best $1000 I have ever spent on a mod on a car... like ever!!! It is custom-designed for the R172, and it takes little effort to install... bolts right on... If you don't have it, you sure don't know what you are missing until you hear it or have it on yours.

OK, my public service announcement ends...

@b82012 Hey bro could you do me a favor, kinda involves getting on the ground I still got a lil rattle coming from a known area of contact (pics below) at passenger rear back box connection to the x-pipe. I had a little vibration issue that was dampened with the damper part I installed on the down pipes but not dampened enough to prevent this area from vibrating or making contact. I would like to see what modification was done in this area (if any) by your exhaust installer to try and get some insight as to what I need to do to fully resolve the issue as you have not had any vibration/rattle contact issue whatsoever last I heard. Just need some quick pics of this same area on yours, its not a bad reach at all you just have to lay on the ground. The area the pipe runs through is very tight (between frame support and rear upper link mounting point) and surely they had to have done a crimp, flat or bend here to prevent it unless I just still have some exhaust vibration issue still. Don't know why this site post pics upside down. I even tried turning them upside down and then posting but they were still upside down.

Oh I hear ya Miami playa! Enjoy your vacation No big deal, just whenever, as this is just a minor issue that I want to follow up on. It comes and goes and I'm trying to resolve it without pulling the muffler and taking it to a muffler shop to have a bend put in.

We about to get loud. Already got my CHROME-TEC controller installed which gets the flaps always open, and that made a huge difference at regular speeds, unleashing that delicious NA V8 sound. Replacing the resonator with this tomorrow should increase volume across-the-board.

I got the X-pipe installed in place of the resonator but was not rewarded with a noticeable volume increase. The CHROME-TEC box to force the flaps open was a huge difference-maker though. I've heard that the "secondary cats" on the R172 are actually resonators but I'm very skeptical, does anyone have proof of that? Being in California I'd need to be 100% sure (since smog checks are both visual and emissions).

Here in the Uk I've been told by two people that they are resonators. There's a thread here showing the inside if them. https://www.slkworld.com/performance...aust-mods.html

It's worth checking that there aren't differences between American and European models.
