Engine upgrade after 3 years and/or 60K kms?

I went to the Brabus workshop in Bottrop, Germany this morning to detail some work in my interior (dash and door trim in leather) and asked them if they had any engine upgrades for my 2012-55. In short: no. Why? they feel that an engine that is over 3 years old or has done over 60K kms has 'set' to much to accept an upgrade AND have them guarantee the work for three years.

Considering they know what they are talking about in upgrading engines, one has to wonder about the members on this list installing compressors on the R171-55 (at least 8 year old) or having an ECU upgrade and replace headers other parts of the exhaust. Are we the ignorant bunch and taking a big chance here?

What about signing a disclaimer if you really want the upgrade?
Are they willing to do it?

Unsure. A salesrep was saying 'no', and that's telling something because these guys are on commission. But I'll be back for my leathers so I'll poke them a little to see what's possible. Maybe it's even as simple as their insurance company saying 'no'. Product guarantees are, generally speaking, re-insured but that comes at the cost of the insurer telling what is acceptable and what not. Doubtful if they would inform a customer about this situation if it exists.

Brabus just doesn't want to deal with an older car, they are full of crap. They evidently have enough customers and don't want to deal with rusty bolts.

My 140K on the clock was also a deal breaker. They like customer doing 2K a year.

That keeps the warranty costs down.

I've put the situation before Kleemann (DK). As some of you may remember, member @Slk55nor had them fit new headers and an ECU tune on a 2013 and a 2014 model (both 55's). Considering their age, Brabus wouldn't touch them and maybe the mileage would have been a no go also.

Kleemann responded firmly that they don't believe in such criteria and that it's perfectly OK to upgrade an older or more mileage engine. I'm not aware of the guarantee criteria that Kleemann uses (apart from them giving only guarantees it they do the install), but it seems we have contradicting views from well respected MB tuners here.
