Looking into a 2012-2016 SLK350. Anyone know of any performance mods that can be done to the v6 banger? How is the performance on these things? Worthy of a weekend toy or should I skip and go for something else?

I had a 2005 SLK 350 for 8 years. It was a cracking car. Still miss it despite now having a 55. I suspect the 350 with the AMG sports pack is a more enjoyable car, day to day and on spirited driving than the 55. Locally most of my spirited drives are on twisty back roads and i find the nose of the 55 is heavier and the whole balance was better for the 350 on twisty country roads.

You want 100 bhp more than the SLK 350? get a 55, would be my opinion.

Have a look at my thread ‘addicted to my SLK’.
The first thing that almost always went through my head when buying a car was how to get more power and what to modify.
My 350 replaced a highly modified Impreza and since owning it I have never thought about getting more from it as it is just so good at everything in standard form.
Have a look on YouTube at SLK350 vs other cars and it is right up there with the majority of high performance cars.
After testing a 55 I would say if you want power power power then buy a 55 - I found it is a rear ‘drivers car’ but the 350 isn’t that much slower and will still make you grin ear to ear every time you drive it.
The 350 a little more of an all round daily driver (in my opinion).
The other things to consider is weather you prefer the sound of the V6 or V8. (Both are very addictive in my opinion although I do prefer the V6 symphony) and is fuel consumpion a concern? (although I believe the 55 is very economical for a V8).
My suggestion is drive one of each and decide. See if you can take a long test drive in each and use them ‘properly’ not just a quick run around the block.

I came from a Honda S2000, which is a great sports car. I was an instructor for HSDE at Texas World Speedway and other Texas tracks. I thought that I would be giving up some of that handling and yes I did, but it was a very small amount. I just have to drive it a little different. Straight line performance is very good and I think the exhaust sound is near perfect. Now I have had two service writers ask me what did I do to the exhaust, but as far as I know it is stock.
I can tell you this and you might drive one and say I don’t know what I am talking about. Plus I have never driven a AMG55, so go test drive a couple and see if they make you smile or not.

I'm perfectly satisfied with my SLK 350 with the Sport PKG. Mine is one of the last R171s to come off the line, since MB tooled up for the R172 a month or two later. It runs just fine, gets good gas mileage, and the steering and handling are first rate. As far as engine mods are concerned, you'd be well advised to leave it stock. It might be a good idea to save a few dollars in case you get bitten by the balance shaft!>:D

If you want the benefits of the AMG Sport's Pkg, the main elements of it will be for sale soon when Bilstein's B6 production gets back up to speed!

So looks like CKS Performance has an ECU Remap for the v6 350 to squeeze out additional 21 bhp/18 Ibft of torque. Anyone know if this is worth the price for $411.77 (USD)???

Link here

Would be worth a consideration...
