Dinan chip

I have a 2013 SLK 250 (gas) I added a Dinan chip (25hp and 35lbs). Oh my gosh! The best $300 I have ever spent. Thought I should pass on...

Interesting... the chart shows about 16hp gain at 2500rpm.... but still a darn good boost for $300 on a Mercedes. Hope you I'll give follow on update on real world performance over time. thx

Similar to Kleemann's for the r172 350

300 & 350 V6 BE (M276)

The latest generation normally aspirated, direct injected, 3.5 liter M276 V6 engine, with a maximum of 306 HP and 370Nm (272 lb-ft) of torque, is a powerful and smooth mid range engine. This engine is available in the 2012+ C, CLS, E, and ML. Our R&D department has spent an enormous amount of time perfecting the ECU software for this engine. An increase in power of up to 330 HP and 400 Nm (296 lb-ft), as well as improved throttle response and raised speed limiter, is now available. As a unique KLEEMANN feature, we have managed to improve the software in the 300 models (which is, in fact, the same engine as the 350, but intentionally limited in power production by the factory) so the new power level becomes the same level as the 350, plus tuning gains. 300 owners will gain what is a normally unheard of improvement in power and torque from an ECU tuning. 350-K1(BE): ECU tuning. Up to 330 HP and 400 Nm (296 lb-ft) of torque. 300-K1(BE): ECU tuning. Up to 330 HP and 400 Nm (296 lb-ft) of torque.

I’ve never had a custom tune or race chip before. Is it possible to remove these without them leaving a “fingerprint”, or is this something better to get once the car is out of warranty?

The experts will jump in when they sober/wake up to refute my comment
Since it is usually your ecu that is 'reprogrammed' for these 'upgrades', unless one has an 'extra' ecu to swap out say when you go in for service, it is better left until out of warranty in my opinion.
It is not like a SmartTop where you have a 'disable setting for service shop visit' mode

A month ago I contacted Autoscope in Dallas. We discussed the many options I had for performance. They suggested this option. They believed that this was the best option for the money. They were very professional and have an impressive operation. After driving for a month, I am wowed by the change. In the "E" setting the car preforms fantastic in real life driving conditions. In the "S" setting the car is down right aggressive. I also added a K&N filter. The change is so big it exceeds my expectations. My car was out of warranty in July. Now I can just enjoy the potential in this little engine.

On my SLK 200 2012 i picked up a RaceChip PRO2 for £50 off fleebay it's ajustable and you can remove the chip box but leave the wiring harness on the car and pop on a blank plugin in place of the chipbox in seconds so i remove the chip easy in winter and for daily driving i removed the back boxes too on the exhaust system (can be welded back on)never lost the overun blurp sound on gear changes and can actually hear the exhaust better now,i never liked how quiet the base engine is.
Also it's been very hard to find any positive performance mod advice on the 1800 cc models ie 200/250 petrols, bigger engine bore bigger tune or turbo on the two or what?,but im waiting now for the out of warranty mods to appear.

Folks,

please don't mangle your cars with these kinds of modifications.

An external "chip" box works by falsificating sensor data to the motor ecu, and in the long run will end up in situation where sensor falsification will lead to unwanted results.

If ecu modifications are needed, please have a remap on the ecu. By this way, sensor data is remained as should, and things cannot run into conflict situation.

So RaceChip as a German Company do not know what they are doing and selling us?
How have they survived so long mangling folks Engines?
And whats peoples opinion on so called detuned Engines from factory like my 1.8l SLK 200 data sheet even says detuned is the 250 petrol bigger bore bigger turbo or different map/tune ie is there reserve power in these detuned Engines?

Oh, I don't doubt at all that Racechip wouldn't know what they sell.

What comes to detuned engines.. One can do a part-by-part comparison of a detuned and "mother" car, and finding no part differences there, it's just a matter of uploading ecu maps from the more powerful one.

Or, in case of some M013 versions, just a matter of getting rid of reduction tables. Just like a 280cdi vs 320cdi on OM642s.

I watched a youtube video a little while ago and some guy got over 40% increase in performance from a tune it was BMW Engine shared by the Z4 18i,20i and 28i alot of manufacturers use the block for several models or bring a detuned model out first so they can tweek it later as another model it makes sense from a production point too.
So unlocked reserve power maybe in alot of engines.
Nobody should tune their Engine if they don't know the possible long term risk and have a car still under warranty even my Insurer allows up to 21% increase for a modest fee for a more mature fella like me,i would never not tell my insurer though!even told them about back box delete and smartop roof mod only added £30 to my premium.
Had a Fiesta ST ecoboost before the Merc, had a chip on that for a year and KnN filter and mountune air box and silicone hose there is reserve in that cars Engine as Ford warrant Mountune stage 1 and more now i think.
Fiesta went for a the want of a convertible old age crisis i think it was.

Just a warning about those powerbox.
Like mention above go for a remap.

Powerboxes are the mother of all evil in this world. I am sure they were developed in a secret facility by satan himself and that is putting it mildly. With chiptuning your change ALL the needed parameters that run your engine. A powerbox just lies to your engine management system, throwing it off balance and feeding your engine the wrong amounts of fuel etc. Very often you will see powerboxes on ebay, which are basically two plastic plugs, a small box and a 5 cent resistor poured into black resin. If you want to get rich quick with an astronomical profit margin you should start selling powerboxes, because the company logo sticker on the outside is the most expensive part of it. Do they give you a noticeable effect? Yes, you will get some more performance, accompanied by a tail of black smoke and an engine that hates you forever. Still want to buy a powerbox? Read this paragraph again.

Coming from experience with mangling perfectly good cars for more power; if you want a more power, either pay for it (kleeman, dinan) or start learning. (Megasquirt, Holley EFI)

I had an old 5 cyl. Audi that I put a powerbox on. it was probably $15 and I was young. but I'll be darned if that car didn't have 15 more HP... unfortunately, the car recognized something was up and it would throw a coolant temp light at me... A competent tune would have solved issues like that.

Although i got my RaceChip Pro 2 for just £50 off Fleebay they do cost alot more new close to the price of an ECU tune for the top version,i like mine because it can be removed as and when needed as i stated in a post above and also i'll install it in a few seconds before a nice sporty drive, all winter and even to this day it's capped off on it's wiring harness with a simple blank plugin that restores it to stock instantly,no point installing it in winter here in the UK for day to day commuting and it's adjustable by removing 4 screws inside the chip,Racechip support were also excellent online, advising me of settings and answered my every question within a few days.
