Any R172 owner with a Piecha Converter "CS" module installed?

There are a few owners of R171s with some throttle booster installed - Pedal Box, Sprint Booster or Piecha.

For R172 owners, it doesn't appear there is any on this sub-forum... I have searched with no luck... I have the unit by Piecha on order and if no R172 owner has it installed, then I will have to be the pioneer/guinea pig for this mod... But it sure would be great to know if an owner on this forum has one installed... Have read lots of great things about the Piecha module hence choosing this product over the others in the market.... I am expecting a much more exhilarating drive especially at low low rpm, based on past experience with the SB unit installed in an e60 way back when...

I just installed the DTE pedalbox+ On my 2012 SLK350 and getting rid of the delay alone is worth it. I chose the DTE one because it had more options to tune it up or turn it down. It's so much more fun to drive with a more responsive gas pedal. I look forward to seeing your impressions on the piecha one, as I was looking into that one too. I turned my pedalbox off the other day to see what it was like before and wow, it felt like a dog at lower speeds.

Excellent to hear an R172 owner experience. A couple quick questions, if you may. Do you find the pedal reaction a tad twitchy or just right with the DTE install? And according to info on your DTE+, it says there are 20 settings, do you often need to switch settings due to different traffic/road conditions, or just set and go? The Piecha one has just two settings - "City" and "Sport" so I am hoping less options to worry about...

Hmmmm, not had much thought on one of those as I couldn't see justifying the price. Not liking the drive by wire delay but, instant throttle response from previous cars with straight throttle cable is missed. Post them results

Before I installed the DTE box I was worried about it being twitchy or too much. The DTE takes off the delay but the main reason I went with the DTE was the flexibility of customizing the gas pedal foot pressure to gas ratio. After installing it and testing out the different programs, I found my sweet spot. It has 4 modes: city: green, sport: yellow, sport+: red, and off: white. The city I like for everyday driving but lately I've been keeping it in sport (been having fun but I turn it back to city in traffic). The gas pedal is more responsive and when driving in (the car's setting of) eco or sport the shifts seem smoother having a faster rise with the pedal. You can't change settings while driving but if you are stopped at a light (car can be running, you just can't be pressing the gas pedal) and someone wants to see what you got, it's nice to be able to change it to sport or sport+. Sport+ is too much for regular driving and starting off with city and moving up from there is a good beginning point if just installed. I haven't played around with the individual settings within the modes yet but I'm happy with it none the less. Once installed the feeling you get is what you've been wanting from your car but just couldn't put your finger on till now. My experience is only with the 350 so I can't speak for the other models but maybe worth a try. They have a 30 day money back guarantee which I thought I'd use because I didn't have high hopes for this box but when I turned it off and tried driving and it was boring compared to having it on. Install was super easy. Wait ten minutes for your car to be completely off, take off the two bolts holding down the pedal, disconnect the pedal and put the DTE's wire harness online and double stick tape the controller in a convenient location. I'll try to take and post a pic or two as soon as I can. To program it you turn the car to on but don't turn the engine on, hold down the flashing button till it's solid and press down on the gas pedal all the way. This measures the range from top to bottom of the pedal and the you hit the button again and you're done. That's what I remember doing so just for an idea of how easy it is but reference the manual to install if you decide to get one. As far as the piecha having just city and sport doesn't seem bad because I find myself only toggling between those two settings anyway. Can't wait to hear your impressions on the piecha box because that was my other choice. Aesthetics wise, I like the look of the DTE the best, but it was slightly bigger than I was expecting but not obnoxious. But after using it I like its size and it's easy to press the buttons and see. Well I think that's all I can say about that.

Hi Len, typical internet debate stuff... none of this bothers me one bit... As you said, "... in the end gotta do what you want". That is just it.... In the summer when I drive up north, you can test drive my car with the Piecha throttle modulator, and then tell me what you think of it

Well I'm gonna w8 for the b8 to be Guinea piggy this time Maybe encourage me to drop $300 on one since I encouraged him to drop over $1G on that exhaust (I'm sure he likes ) So what was the other alternative box brand name just for looks and comparison although I most likely will stick to Piecha seeing how that is Jezebel's preferred brand of blingy thingys? Having degree in electronics I bet there ain't much to those lil electronic signal gain boxes (very low cost to build) but if the gain is noticeably different (quicker response) I can see droppin $300.

Back country roads? Not likely around here. Too many complaints have got what seems to be a permanent police presence to prevent those things from happening. Got a lot of (blind) hills as well as driveways that are right at the crest of those hills so that sort of actiivity is too dangerous.

As far as divesting myself of my '55, like a well known personage once said "they'll have to pry the key fob out of my cold dead hands errrr pocket" (or something similar )

In all honesty, with only about 5000 km on these tires, I find it difficult to keep the tires planted on a quick start. Have to get rolling a bit to get any sort of traction so that loses valuable time . Slower cars don't seem to have that issue

You have trac control (ESP). Well I would say you just need some softer compound tires for the colder weather for extra traction but no need since Canada is overpopulated as well. Hmmmm, maybe yall should come hit some of my Ala back country roads instead, the hillbillys are to drunk on mountain dew to care

@Robrowdy, YES, I love love love the Fox/Piecha sport exhaust and $$$ well spent... So be warned ahead.... My Piecha converter arrives tomorrow, sayz FedEx... It will get installed before the week runs out and a report provided no later than this Friday.... I fully expect to love it but before you decide on that $300 purchase, wait for my full (unbiased ) report to come....

Ownership and user experience of the Piecha Converter "CS" RC throttle module.

So I finally received this module about a week ago, but it arrived when I was out on a biz trip. Returned a couple of days ago and got it fitted earlier today. Fitting took about 5 min (tops).... Really easy...

Driving impressions:

The module comes with "I", "0" and "II", where "I" = City mode, "II" = Sport mode, and "0" is factory/stock....

- City throttle mode & "E" tranny setting - I really did not feel much difference; maybe I was just not paying that much attention, but it was marginal, IMHO.

- City throttle mode & "S" tranny setting - a slightly better pick-up at low rev (<2K rpm), but not much noticeable >2.5K rpm.... acceleration was smooth, no herky-jerky... smooth it is.

- Sport throttle mode & "S" tranny setting - ahhhhh, now we are talking... car moves purposely, smooth and very noticeable improvement in upshift/downshift, especially at <2K rpm. From a red-light stop, it feels like a jack-n-the-box ready to leap out. A lotta fun, and gets going briskly and purposefully... It is the only mode worth using.... Period.

I didn't even bother trying other modes once I put it in "Sport" mode and "S" tranny... That is all she wrote.

Verdict

If I have to rate it on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being lights-out fun, I will rate it 8/10. The only reason it is lower than a 9.5 is bcos the "City" mode isn't doing anything for me... could be bcos I am so lead-footed I could not feel much difference from stock. Or maybe I should give it more time to see if I end up liking it. But for now, the car will be set permanently at "Sport" & "Sport"...

There you have it folks... I may do a write-up with pics if anybody wants it...

ps: Piecha allows adjustments to each setting from default, and I may have to try these adjustments just to see/find one that fits me perfect. But, if I didn't quite state it clearly enough... this module is a keeper for me. Cannot imagine driving the car without it now...

^^^The more I drive this car the happier I am with this addition. The car is way more responsive now, and it "feels" faster. I put the word "feel" in quotes bcos it isn't really faster, just getting to the upper part of the response quicker with this module gives that feel.... My rating needs to be adjusted. It is now a healthy 9.5/10... Until I tweak the settings up or down, I won't know if it will get to 10/10 or in reverse....

Default Piecha setting is at "5" for the "Sport" mode... see attached pic.... and I will be tweaking and reporting back.

Quick seat-of-the-pant comparison with my driving of @KSand (Kevin) car with the DTE pedal box a couple weeks ago. I think the Piecha "Sport" mode is very similar to the DTE's Sport+ setting, and that is just fine by me... The more I drive the car, the more I realize why owners love it, and won't take it off. Is it for everyone? Possibly not... But it does provide a much better "performance" than simply pressing down harder... gone is the lag when you are slowed and need to get going quickly; gone is the lag when you are coming off a stop light; gone is the lag when you have to accelerate and pass on the freeway; there is just no lag, period.

@Robrowdy, I will strongly recommend investing $350 to test this out. If you don't like it, simply return and get your money back...
