Eurocharged Headers what do you think?

What do you think about these headers for a 2006 55 AMG

C55/CLK55/SLK55 Headers | eBay

I already had the resonator, secondary cats delete and an xpipe, They claim these they leave the primary cats. Is that something one would do? I would like to add headers then get the ECU done but there may be a reason for this price. Also the shipping to Canada is listed as USD $179.69 and it is free within the states, seems like the usual ebay shipping scam. Any opinions please...

I looked into these a while back. I believe it's Eurocharged selling off old stock and are not making anymore.

The appeal is that they keep your primary cats and so you retain emissions limits. They are more restrictive and so produce less extra power than the more popular long headers. Long headers take out the primary cats. Many members on here have gone down that route, including the boss Jeff.

I decided not to do as the power gains were not that much, can't remember the figures sorry.

The stock headers are very restrictive. I think it is a decent deal and should provide approx. 15 hp increase and better sound, especially as you have other exhaust mods done. I have similar Renntech short headers and I’m very happy with them. In my case I had to forget long tube headers like Kleemann because I needed to retain primary cats due to emission regulations in my country.

If you decide to buy them, I suggest you to ceramic coat them (unless coated already from factory) to keep them a lot cooler.

I had a bit hard time to install them as the header nuts were quite difficult to reach, there are some good diy instructions available if you try Google.

These look suspiciously like a knock off of the R171 black series header shown on the link below.

Note the factory wrapped them in Thermotech wrap as well.

Also, from the ebay listing the shortie EC headers have 2" collectors. The Klemanns are 2.5". But for the price, I wouldn't be afraid of these EC headers.

I am not sure this is even a picture of the actual headers. Either way I just got a set Kleemann in the mail from Cory and will be getting them installed in January with an ECU flash from them as well. No cats at all with an xpipe. I hope it is too loud. The rear cat delete and xpipe that I already had done is great. I just finished installing the Piecha rear diffuser myself and need tires for my new 19" rims. When they put on the headers they will also install the new Bilsteins and H&R springs.

I have a set of Kleemann headers and no catalytic converters, not a single ones, but I do have original center resonator and rear boxes. At steady throttle car is quiet but when you floor it sound is quite infernal. I would say yours will be too loud if you going to full decat and to replace original center box with an X.

I went ahead and purchased the Eurocharged headers - I already have a set of Top Speed headers, but felt these would perform a bit better. After receiving them I cannot get the drivers side (left side) header in place. From the bottom I cant get past the steering column and from the top - no way.

Has anyone installed a set of these on a R171? They did not come with any instructions.

Contact them and ask.

I've contacted Eurocharged as well. They asked for pictures, which I sent yesterday, but I have not yet heard back from them. I would have considered Kleeman long tube headers as an alternative, but I've already removed the secondary cats (along with resonators and installed Magnaflow X-pipe). Since the Kleeman pipes require removal of the primary Cats I would no longer have any, which I think would result in CEL issues.

I have no primary cats (see my header thread)
and as long as the O2 sensors are plugged in then no CELS

see?

Can I borrow a set to see how they fit in my R170??

I think the passenger side would fit, but not sure about the drivers (around the steering rack)

Deleting primary cats will give you CEL and two DTC codes for sure. Theres two way to solve this. ECU tune from EC or Kleemann or just get a Star/ DAS laptop and shut down diagnostics of the rear lambda sensors. I have done this last option with my SLK and former CLK. There is simple dragbox "ein/aus" style for this.

There is allso lambda spacers available on Ebay but couldn't get them work when I tried them on CLK. The idea is to move sensor head out of exhaust gas stream and slow down response. Maybe the small hole in those spacers was too big.

Thanks for all the feedback! I finally disconnected the steering column and was able to move it out of the way, then the header slid right in. But they are a tight fit - required removing most of the manifold studs from the heads to get them in place. Replacing the studs while trying to keep the gaskets aligned is a bear, especially when I can barely access several of them. But the car is my toy, I don't have any time frame for getting it back on the road, so I'll take my time and get it done!
They sure look nice. Jbanks - thanks for the info on plugging the O2 sensors - I didn't realize it was that simple!

Not the expert of course. And it might be no cels since i also have a Kleemann tune but I really believe the tune was for the addition of the headers/downpipe and not because of the removal of the 1st cat

Probably the best time to change the engine mounts if you took out the headers.

No offence sir but the tune is for both reasons. Rear lambda sensors are only for keeping eye on primary cats. Front ones are for afr.

I do not have a tune but rear lambdas are turned off by Star/Xentry/DAS. Actually that common line is a bit wrong... The rear lambdas are still working and you can see them by looking live data like fuel strings and voltage lines. Only the catalytic diagnostic feature is turned off so they don't throw CEL by not seeing front cats working. But you still get CEL if the rear lambdas worn out or heater element dies etc normal sensor wear.

Only reason I'm thinking of getting a tune is to get rid of vmax.
