Thumbs down engines splatters at low RPM why ????

Since my performance tune i occasionally get a situation where my car , at light throttle will splatter and sound flat until it hits 2000 rpm then takes off like a rocket ...
i took the car back for an inspection and was told that my accelerator peddle is starting to fail hence the issue..
so doing some research , tried the following , by turning the key to the one position and putting the pedal to the floor for 5 secs, then turning key off and removing key for 2 min .. BOOM all runs like a dream and car super responsive ..
then after a a week or so , the issue comes back , reset and all good again ...

my question is , that if it is the pedal , why does it reset and run like a dream ??
OR is it the throttle body sensor playing up ???
OR , i have no idea why this is happening ...

help needed on this one , as when the car drives well it is very responsive BUT when it plays up , sounds like the ignition timing has retarded 50 degrees and sounds like a out of tune trumpet ...

thank you

Who did you get your tune from? It sounds like you need a re-tune.

Is the engine cold when this happens?
Often times the extra power isn't delivered until the engine is warm enough...

Hmm

Sounds like the ECU is trying to revert it'sself back to what it thinks is normal...

If the pedal is suspected, you could just swap it out ... failing that then you'll need a good old diagnostic session to confirm ....

Cheers

The splattering will probably stop after a couple hundred miles of ecu adaptation.

I had no such issues with either a Kleemann or a Eurocharged tune. This started just after your tune, and it would be quite coincidental to not have been caused by it. Go back and tell them what's wrong and hopefully they can fix it.

thank you for comment .. i did exactly that , went back and showed them the issue and they said it was my accelerator pedal playing up.. when i explained what i did to reset the car , no reply was left with no answer .. told to just drive the car and bring it back if it plays up .. honestly i have lost all confidence in this mob as there have been so may issues come up since after they fitted my exhaust. i have taken the car to a stainless steel fabricator , in which after one day of work , we fixed the issues together as the original mob kept telling me that it could not be done...'

so i am just trying to work out is it the pedal , the throttle body sensor or something going wrong with tune ??? it cant be the tune IMO as when i reset it the car hammers , like i nail it from idle and i am sideways in all 3 gears ( yes i have new tires as well ) so when this is happening i am so very happy with the car .. just wish this fluttering would not come back ...

again thank you to everyone for reading this and offering advice

How many miles have you covered since the tune?

You use the word 'tune' - what exactly has been done?

Engine (assuming in good condition) spluttering at low rpm is timing - either ignition or camshaft. Nothing else.

Someone has played around with one of the various items that governs timing timing. It could be the ECU or it could be the connections into the crank sensor or cam sensor. I would not have thought the accelerator potentiometer would affect timing - or certainly I cannot see how it would.

IF the engine picks up and runs well when the revs are increased, look closely at the cam sensors as a start.

if in the first few degrees of movement there is a corrupt signal being sent then i understand this will happen ,, i know that the early models have had issues with the pedal ....

at times when splattering , , once i get to 2200 rpm then all good and car gets going ... ahhh frustrated .. thank you for your time

i did not purchase a new pedal as the price to just take a gamble to 'see' if it works , was not justifiable.

So about every 3 or 4 weeks , when i start to get a hint that it is playing up, i just reset the throttle body and the car drives like it should .. annoying i must admit as i do not like being beaten by not sorting my car out.

Hi peZ got it... didn't realize that process was resetting the throttle body!

I have similar experience to you only perhaps not as extreme. It's like the power curve goes flat from 1600 up to about 2200 then it takes off. Some small vibration as well.

I do the reset routine and it feels like it shapes up for a while.

Doing the belts and pulleys next week because they're due not that I think its the root of the issue.

Resently changed air filters, plugs, oil, filters all helped. Replaced trans mount too. New sprocket gear as well as I was one of the cars MB cited as having a potential to fail.

Following your posts with interest.

@touring steve
so i was starting to have some small battery issues and wel was lets see what i have ,,, yes the genuine battery since 2008.. so did teh change new battery and well umm ahhh , my problems seems to have settled .. all week car drives like a dream and some subtle changes , eg air con is usually at 22 degrees , now that seems too cold and must be set to 23 .. my P/S mirror kept doing weird stuff and needed to be reset so many times, now it just stays where it should..
i was more than happy to replace something that needed to be replaced rather than take a plunge buying a new pedal and then being a waste of money .. so 10 days down and all good so far , hope this helps
