Bilstein B12 Suspension Kit

This finally came in today after placing an order on 5/12/14. I plan on having this installed on my 2005 SLK55 next week. Paid $905 shipped, which I think is reasonable for Bilstein Sport/B8 shocks and discontinued Eibach Pro-Kit springs. Bilstein Sport shocks fit the SLK55 and members have installed Eibach springs on the SLK55 without any issues. I shouldn't have any fitment issues with this kit, hopefully. I also have the SPC rear camber kit to be installed at the same time. Thanks to Durk, I'll look into spacers for the stock wheels after everything is said and done.

Do I spot a new airbox amongst the Bilstein/Eibach goodies?
Are you planning to use it with K&N filters?

Where did you get it? I'm having K&N's waiting to be installed but a 'better' airbox would be so much more fitting for these filters.

Yes-I was debating between modifying the stock SLK55 airbox or buying the E55 airbox, which I ended up getting. I'll be using them with my current aFe dry filters. It'll be some time before I get the E55 airbox installed as I plan on wrapping them in heat reflective material.

I ordered from genuinemercedesparts (MB of South Atlanta I believe). This modification applies to the SLK55s and other similarly-sized engines. I'm not sure if anyone has ever tried to fit this on the SLK350. It seems like it might work. If not, your only option might be getting the Sport (red) airbox.

Looks good, man. Looking forward to installed pix. You'll like having a lowered car (again!).

Got the suspension kit and rear camber kit installed today. I was originally going to do just the rear spring pads but since I already purchased them, I decided to have them installed as well. I highly recommend PTUNING for any suspension work. The work took about 6 hours. Nice customer waiting area and very professional. I'll drive the car a couple of days to let the suspension settle and see if the car drops any lower before getting alignment.

Inspection of the car, inside and out, before performing any work on it. I didn't even know the driver side door sill was cracked-the black plastic part.

BEFORE (Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks were inside the trunk if that matters)

AFTER: Eibach Pro-Kit, Bilstein Sport shocks, rear spring pads, no parts in the trunk

AFTER: Eibach Pro-Kit, Bilstein Sport shocks, rear spring pads, no parts in the trunk

How low can you go!!

Those blacked out windows look neat. Too bad they are illegal over here. (there is a minimum percentage of light that has to get through, essentially allowing only a very light tinting)

The drop is just right for me. Any lower and I'd have to sacrifice more ground clearance and possibly ride comfort, which is currently as comfortable as stock. If anyone plans on lowering their daily driver, definitely get the Eibach springs or the Eibach/Bilstein package kit. Maybe it's in my head but the steering feels lighter, like there's more confidence to toss the car around. I haven't pushed the car that hard yet.

The car was already tinted by the previous owner when I purchased it. I'm positive that it meets the state requirements. The cloudy weather/sunlight reflection just makes it look darker than it is.

Feel lighter could be because your alignment is off.

looking good James! Congratulations. I sure would like to know if that 55 airbox would in fact work with the M272 engine and even more interested to find out your opinion of the difference once installed. Please update.

I am normally quite internet-search savvy... However, can someone PLEASE tell me where I can find the Eibach springs for the SLK55! I'm having no luck, even searching european ebay sellers.

I haven't had the time to wrap the E55 intake so it hasn't been installed yet.

We could try and see if the E55 intake will fit Erik719's SLK350. PM me if you're interested, Erik719. I'm in Falls Church. I strongly recommend alignment be performed at the same performance shop that installs the camber kit. Though I've been praising Firestone Auto for their lifetime alignment (had no problems on a Camaro or stock SLK55) but they could not figure out how to adjust the aftermarket rear camber kit. They said there was no space to fit the supplied tool.

I can find the SLK350 kits all over the internet.

But... Does the part number for SLK55 springs match the part number for the SLK350 springs? What is the part number of the springs for your full B12 kit?

The SLK350 and SLK55 are 186lbs different. It sounds somewhat negligible, however, I'd be worried about 'sag' after a year or two

Didn't you post a thread asking this question already? There is no part number for the SLK55. You have to use the SLK350 part number. I think the part numbers are on the springs and shocks, in the pictures.

If you have to have a part number for the SLK55, then get the H&R springs. They use the same part number for the SLK350.

LOL, no need to get 'snippy!' that's what forums are for... to 'discuss.'
If you don't have time to answer, or answer again, then DON'T ANSWER at all. No one is under any sort of obligation, other than kindness.

Why turn this forum into another typical forum out there? Lots of great people and great info available here, no need to sour it.

JamesSLK55 ignore my PM, I just saw this thread. Your car looks PERFECT. My car is the exact same, an 05 SLK55 on stock wheels. Damn it, I didn't want to lower the car but it looks like I'll be lowering my car now haha.

Question for you guys, on a mild drop like this is a camber kit necessary? Is the camber kit to maintain even tire wear for stock set up or simply to add spacers and get a more aggressive look?

Thanks all. Oh and its official. I got this car last week and the mod bug has taken over!
