My first Performance Mod, totally down the drain...

Was going to do my brakes upgrade today, and just found out that my front calipers don't fit.

I bought them used, going on the PN on the front, 20.7048.03 and 20.7048.04

Had received the information that they should fit my car.

Well, below, you can see the results.

What car? Year? Where the brakes come from?

Looks like you need the caliper bracket to go with those calipers.

The calipers I have, come from a W211, and have the Part numbers 20.7048.03 and 20.7048.04 I got the information that they should fit the SLK.

But as you can see on the picture below, they are slightly different. I would say, that they need to go about 10mm further back, and about 5 mm further out. If someone could provide me with the correct PN's, it would be great!

No, it does not fit with the 330mm disc. Like I mentioned, it needs to move about 10mm to the rear of the car. It seems like the R171 calipers have longer "ears" for the bolts.

There are a zillion different part numbers for Mercedes brakes that cosmetically look identical.

A few months back, I looked into getting a set of brakes a la pre-2008 SLK55 (6-pot front, 4-pot rear). I found a set at a wrecker but they were on a different model Mercedes. After looking into it more, the part #s did not match with the well-documented numbers for the 55.

If you look closely the difference always seems to be in a bracket that is either a separate piece or integrated into the caliper directly. This seems to be the issue with the calipers you sourced as well. Since these have a Brembo logo on them they did not come off of any kind of Mercedes as stock calipers. It's anyone's guess which model they may or may not fit.

I have to admit that I'm the guilty one, when it comes to the Brembo logo...

What I need, is the PN for the ones that fit the R171

This is what I have found so far.

20.7048.03 and 20.7048.04 are for W211
20.7047.03 and 20.7047.04 fit W211, W215, W220
20.7046.03 and 20.7046.04 fit W220
20.7045.03 and 20.7045.04 fit W220
20.7042.03 and 20.7042.04 fit W215

There might be other number combinations, as well as the numbers above might fit other vehicles as well.

Here are the front parts of the 2008 SLK55 where my front brakes originate (i.e Eddy Yu's car ("etyu")), courtesy of the inimitable Jeff Banks:

https://www.slkworld.com/vehicle-data...ml#post1405625

By the way, the picture you included above, where you compare the W211 to the R171 brake, is of the SLK350 part (which was on my car originally). The one I have on there now are the 2008 55 parts that are in the PDF attached to the linked post. They are cosmetically very similar, but the 350 caliper comes unpainted, and says "Mercedes Benz", whereas the 55 caliper is painted and says "///AMG". The rotors that are matched with the 55 part are larger as well.

So, to get this in correct order. "etyu" went for a 6-pot/4-pot combination, and sold you the AMG55 4-pot/2-pot setup, that uses 345x30 rotors in front.
You then sold your SLK350 4-pot front calipers that uses 330x28 rotors to "Caboz"?

Then I guess I'm after your original Part number.

Almost. My old ones went to ponia003, no money changed hands, and only the front brakes were involved in the swap. I think Eddy already sold his rears to someone by that time, can't remember. Let's see if Jeff can pull the SLK350 parts #s based on my VIN. Stand by!

Once more with thanks to Jeff, here's a link to the brake part list based on my own VIN, which will give you the parts before I put Eddy's front rotor/caliper combo on my car:

Found a new pair with PN's according to the list A002 420 83 83 and A002 420 84 83.
Will arrive later this week. Let's hope they will fit better.

Bummer..... My rims barely touch the inside of the caliper. Will need a set of spacers. Question is, if I should only take 3mm or 5mm each side.

That is surprising. Which wheels do you have?

As far as spacers. I have 10mm for cosmetic reasons. My 18" OEM rims do not need them to clear these calipers though.

Are your wheels stock? My old wheels cleared these as well (the car came with them and these brakes). My originals were 17".

I have CMS rims, 18x8" ET35. The spokes just rub the inner arc of the caliper, where I have painted the grey spots. I guess that I would be clear, even with 1mm spacer, but it is hard to say how much the wheel flexes.
So 3mm or 5mm will definately fix the clearance.

I was a bit optimistic. Had to mount a 10mm spacer to clear the caliper. But now it looks good.

Have to say, the car has a way more aggressive look with them painted red.
