Australian rear tyre selection 19"

i have travelled over 22,000 km on my KUMHO 255/30R19 91Y KU31 and i must say i was a bit disappointed in the traction and road noise from this tyre.. but this is my first SLK and so i just went with the flow till my tyre change today..

and OMG is all i can say to the difference after fitting a set of CONTINENTAL 255/30ZR19 SPORT CONTACT 5

the first thing i noticed is that the tyre appears wider due to the square shoulder design , then the next thing was how much quieter the road noise is ...
but then the test came to opening the throttle up some and seeing what the traction is like, add to this the change in Melbourne weather and we get a down pour, so i have the fortunate circumstance t test in both conditions...

so the word for toady is GRIP!!! I MEAN GRIP HARD .. so bloody impressed and the difference between the two tyres is not just a smidgeon , but HUGE !!! so never again will i go near a KUHMO ....

so if anyone else has some feed back n tyre selection here in Aussie land, please let me know ..
now it is all about reliability ...

have a great day and i thought i would share ...

by the way i have the Pirelli P Zero on the front, i think they will last 60k the way they are wearing .....

I have Michelin PS3s all round in 235/40/18 on my SLK350. They grip quite well but it is still easy enough to break dry traction on the rears if you put the boot in hard enough.

My daily driver is a Renault Megane Sport 225 which runs Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs, also in 235/40/18 fitment. These grip like sh!t but on the downside become quite noisy as they age.

Michelin Pilot Super Sports are supposed to be pretty close to the best affordable road tyres (as opposed to semi slicks) going around at the moment, but not many local outlets stock them.

Cheers,
Brian

thanks Bac....
yeah i could fry the tyres on the back with the kuhmos when i switched off the traction control ,, with these Contis i might get 1/4 of a turn no traction then it hooks up ,, i am surprised ... i had read about the Michelin as well but circumstances had it that i did nt have time to shop around and have a friend in the tyre game and had a good talk to him , he was the one that guided me this way, so atm so very happy .. will take it out for hard drive on the weekend and see how we go ...
hope you are well and car sounding great hehehehehe ( thought of you the other day as i went through the under pass in richmond and cranked it up nice echo and bloody loud )
