So you may or may not know but around 6/8 weeks ago I bought a 2001 SLK320. I wanted to do something a little different and get it a little more power. I had several ideas floating about and did come to a semi agreement with a local company to carry out the work for me. However they wanted to do several things differently and I decided to go elsewhere.
Being back at square one, I decided to start looking at other Mercedes models around the same year to see what different engines they had to offer me as a conversion. In do this I found the CLK 430 V8. This to me looked the perfect combination for a conversion as it has that lovely V8 rumble, similar fuel consumption to the V6 and it’s not considerably over powering so I can maintain the car as a daily driver and won’t have to change my tyres every couple months.
I did many hours of research and it became very apparent that this was not a conversion that had much information to work from. Well that was until I found the build thread for “Turdo2” and his SLK230. I studied his threat and contacted him in the hope that he could point me in the rite direction and help with hints and tips to get this conversion completed here in the U.K.
With great appreciation he replied to me and told me exactly everything I will need to complete this literally down to the last bolt. Being that I’m in Essex U.K. the only person really who I think has the ability to carry out such work is Dave who too is carrying out a V8 conversion himself. He did kindly contact me and we discussed our options, however Dave is 6/700 miles north of me and to get both cars up there was going to cost me a fortune in transport expenses due to the fact I can’t drive from a back operation.
So that then left me with all the knowledge of knowing what exactly I needed to get the job complete but no one skilled enough to do it. Especially having someone skilled enough mechanically along with getting there head around the electrical side of things. In having a conversation with “Turdo2” I then had a light bulb moment and I suggested it to him. With Turdo2 thankfully agreeing I contacted my dads best friend who works in transport shipping around the world and he got me a fantastic price to have both cars shipped over to Turdo2 in the US (Ł500 cheaper than to have both cars taken to Scotland) crazy I know.
So now armed with a shopping list of all the required parts, over the next 3 months I am going to buy everything that Turdo2 needs to complete the conversion.
Come end of August, my beloved SLK320 along with the CLK430 will be travelling “container” style across the Atlantic to be greeted by Turdo2. Then upon completion I will be heading over there to test drive it and have it returned.

Turdo2 has assured me he will send regular updates and pictures of the build and being that mine is the V6 we are hoping it may be a little easier than when I

I’m super excited to get this finished and can’t wait for it to begin! I’ll keep you all in the loop of whats what and it’s coming along. But for now watch this space!
Lastly I would like to say how fantastic this forum is. It just goes to show that if you can’t or don’t know how, someone, somewhere does and thankfully to forums like this they make it all possible.
