SLK230 Engine weight

Hi, new on forum, Bought a non-running (but in near showroom condition) SLk230, intention was to pull engine, and transplant a V8, The engine problems that were diagnosed by the seller(basically engine is dead, don't know whats wrong with it, going to cost a fortune to replace), turned out to be just a blown ignition coil fuse (20cents)
Now going to drive it for a month or two, while getting parts for the swap together.
Question: (I have done a search-nothing)
What is the weight of an engine with all the accessories on, freshly pulled, swinging on an engine crane?
Thanks in advance
Russ

If you pull, you'll probably pull the trans at the same time. I guess the whole thing at 7-800 lbs. This guy might know. https://www.slkworld.com/performance-...l-v8-swap.html

Thanks I have been through Turdo2's V8 thread, Brilliant build!, pictures alone are enough to push me in the right direction.
Didn't want to hijack his thread just for an engine weight.
Engine on it's own, or combined weight with transmission , either/or.
Just need to get an idea of how close I will be to factory 230 weight.
Thanks Russ.

I still have my engine sitting around... but I'm not sure how to measure it!

actually, thinking with a couple of coworkers - we could use the scale at the co-op after hours.. that should get us within 5%.

If I remember, the V8 is around 450 lbs. the M111 is cast iron block and has the added weight of the supercharger. I think the front sits a little lower now but the added weight is 100000% offset by the extra power.

I'll report with engine weight when I can get that under way.

The scales are only a couple blocks away and I've been really curious anyways!

the whole venture probably only took 15 minutes

Thanks Turdo2!! I'm with Mike350, Amazed!
It's now on record. I just can't see how a simple engine weight from a car that started production over 20 years ago has not been recorded till now.
Like your conversion, Magic
I suspect my conversion will lower the front as well.
Down here in Australia, V8 Benz motors are not a common animal in U pull it yards,I will be going with a 3UZ Lexus engine , another 4.3 V8 (approx 390 lb then add Alt, P/steering, headers and transmission, loaded ready to start, looking at just on 500lb. From your pictures of engine bay, may have a bit more room over the 4.3 Benz engine
Thanks again for the weight.

Very good, another SLK430! looks like there is a good aftermarket for that engine, unlike the M113. but my starter is easily accessible

Plus and minus' with the starter, positioning it in the valley makes it ugly to replace, but it gives a lot more clearance to run the exhaust. Also the 3UZ plenum is higher than an LS1,and by the look of it the Benz v8 (probably because of the starter)What sort of clearance, engine to hood do you have?
Had to use a cutout with a scoop on my 3UZ 928 as the throttle body was just a whisker too high- Fly by wire- had to retain this to run factory ECU to comply with local regulations.
No way would the engine cover fit.Even had to shorten the oil filler.
I suspect it is going to be running close again in the SLK.
Also don't know yet if right hand drive will be a plus (or minus)with steering clearances. I like your rack and pinion solution.
