Do we need a special tool for a pulley upgrade?

Hi all,

Wanted to ask the community - we have ordered a Speer pulley upgrade kit for our girl. Came highly recommended by a German friend.

My question is - do we need a special tool to remove the old one? Thinking it might be a bit of a challenge to get the old one off - she is 15 years old.

Anyone know if it's just the usual tools or if we need a special tool for this job?

Thanks in advance,
Jo

You had better be careful some people have damaged the nose of the crank on some cars trying to get the pulley off.

Tools? A wheel puller will probably be necessary and the removal of the radiator plus lots of PB Blaster. Whatever you do, you had better be prepared for a difficult job and have a lot of patience.

Thanks dssg,

Good to know.
Did yours take you a long time then? And did you notice a big difference after you put yours on?

Not on an SLK but on another brand. Check this out:

Also note how accessible the pulley is depends upon how the engine is mounted, but this video among others will give you some ideas.
