I have made the "MOD MOVE"

Well I pulled the trigger. The NeedsWings DCAI and catch can are here. The 65mm pulley and V2 cable/tune paid for. I am tempted to do a before and after dyno comparison. With these mods. The general consensus is that there should be a 50hp gain. Anyone know what percentage of parasitic loss is accepted as fairly accurate? Another question that I will start a separate thread for but also ask here is this; does the converter lock-up in 4th gear at WOT? Anyways going with a 20 percent parasitic loss these mods should add 40 rear wheel HP. I believe I have read where the DCAI itself added 25hp in a dyno showdown with two other cold air intakes, that is a LOT! If true the pulley and tune should add at least that much so a 50rwhp gain should be possible. I,have not seen any dyno results with the Eurochrged 65mm pulley and accompanying tune, anyone seen one?
I can get a $75. Dyno pull within 30 minutes from where I am staying. What I have proposed would require 3 pulls, stock, after the DCAI and a final after the pulley and time are installed. Donations? LOL

+50 HP sounds about right for those mods. I only gained 30 crank HP from a DCAI and full exhaust COMBINED, but your results may vary. The pulley and tune will definitely make a difference. From the stock SLK32 dyno charts I have seen, 17% seems to be the typical loss from crank HP to RWHP. That's the correction I always use when talking to people in crank HP, which you have to do, because not everyone knows what RWHP is. I talk to peop,e all the time who still don't understand gross and net HP!

Well the NeedsWings DCAI is on. It took me 2 days and 2 more to recover. Rob was great and answered every question with patience. He said he just likes to treat his customers ss he would like to be treated. The power is much more than I expected. From low to high rpm it has more.

Now this week it is my 65mm pulley &tune from2uro. Looking forward to that along with 3 less cats.

well the 65mm Eurocharged pulley has been swapped in. I've run many turbo's on various cars and will, have to say I am more a Turbo guy but WOW! Since the pulley is a direct drive it started off with an immediate response as soon as I started away from the shop, no lag like a turbo.
I have no idea what to expect from the tune being new to these cars but if It responds like the NeedsWings DCAI and this new pulley the car should be in the 12's with ease. I am hoping to have the tune installed on Monday. I failed in my first attempt at installing it. I am getting the battery fully charged and working on the negative battery cable. It had some "crud" built up, something added after the battery, was replaced that hardened and would not allow the clamp to tighten enough to be making a tight clamp. I thought I had put the ECU into limbo! Called Eurocharged and found out the file they return holds both the performance tune and the STOCK tune also!
One small thing that is not part of the mods that I would like to mention is the quality of the stock ground cable. I removed it to get at the crud I had mentioned earlier. Took a wire wheel on a bench grinder to clean it up. First thing I notice is the short ground cable is quite heavy. Then as the clamp cleans up it appears to,be brass!
I had a hip fracture repaired last Friday that has slowed me down but I will be ready on Monday.
Eurocharged has been quite helpful, bearing with my utter lack of computer knowledge as I am working with a new laptop that has Windows 8. They gave me a great deal, for $650. Pulley, tune and USB to OBDII cable
A set of TOYO PROXES R888's should allow, sub 2 second 60' times easily
More to come!

Well, a failure so far with the tune. I thought I had the performance tune loaded without a hitch but the idle was poor and little power, called Euro. And we got the stock tune back in. Now it seems the SC is not engaging. The motor idles fine but ther e is a serious lack of power. In neutral it would not rev past. 4000rpm. In the drive gears it will rev to redline slowly, again like it has no SC. I am not convinced it is a tune issue yet. I had to remove the negative battery cable and when I reinstalled it the alarm was tripped. Put the key into the ignition and it shut off.
What could cause the SC to NOT engage? I see two wires go to it, is there a fuse or link that could have blown that. Sends voltage to the SC? Any other suggestions so I can complete this thread? Thanks, Mark

Eurocharged said it could not be the tune since both the performance tune and the stock tune are acting the same. They suggested I had a bad inter cooler pump, no pump, no SC. That make sense to anyone?
Then from my own reading how about the dreaded K-40 relay? I'd get a replacement relay if I could confirm it is bad, any way to do that besides looking at the soldering, such as a voltage output nearby the K-40? The fuses, 40 amp and the smaller ones that are in that relay are all good, 3.8-4.1 ohms.
last does anyone know of a shop that really knows these cars besides a dealer between Sarasota and Ft. Myers?
After some difficulty with the tune reflashing I decided to remove the negative battery cable to get it to hold the battery post tighter. Upon the reinstall the cable arced a little and set off the alarm. Putting the key into the ignition resolved that. Anyone see anything among these bits of data or have a suggestion for resolving the issue? Mark

check the MAF if you have blown more air up it you may have got it a bit oily.
my MAF gave similar issues (without the upgrade of course).
good luck.

That is correct. It does not have a MAF sensor. It is speed-density system.

If the IC pump is bad, the supercharger will engage until the intercooler heats up and then it will cut out.

I tested it stone cold and still no SC engagement. So I believe that eliminates the IC pump from being the cause of the lack of boost. I would rather the source be found soon as the longer it goes itw becomes more difficult to diagnose as all of the usual sources are eliminated it leaves more difficult to find sources left to find and correct. Thanks for the help guys. I"ll keep you posted on what the shop finds Monday morning. Mark

have you determined whether or not there is power to the supercharger clutch?
if no power appears could that be why?
( also if permanent power feed it may be a switched earth.)
i don't know what voltage triggers the s/c (i guess it is 12v) so can not recommend popping your own feed on to test it engages.

When all factors are there the PCM grounds one of the 2 wires and completes the circuit and the clutch engages so I have learned. I believe even a bad O2 sensor can hold the SC back and I do have an iffy on bank one. Once I have recovered from hip surgery I will get to Pompano Beach and a mechanic I trust, a 350 round trip, almost a 2 day event for me depending on how quick the problem is diagnosed and repaired. I understand a wire to the line that has the pink stripe to ground should engage the SC at idle but I don't have a nice piece of wire here as I have been at this location for about a month. Getting the SC back along with the tune should give me the little terror back and then 3 more mods to consider. As long as the results are positive I may continue. Rob at NeedsWings has some nice mods available for our cars and some are priced reasonably. Check out the piece that exits the compressed air, quite a restriction and he has tweaked intake manifolds reasonably priced. I will give the result/repair once I have it taken care of. Mark

Well all I believe the IC pump is bad. It never feels like it is vibrating and I understand once it has been pumping coolant it will not stop until the motor is shut off. I must have a different pump other than stock now as the wiring has been cut and wrapped in electrical tape. I will let you know asap, Mark
