The best mod for the money is an overdrive crank pulley, but you will have to do other mods inorder to enjoy the full benifits. Oversize intercooler, larger intercooler hose's, airbox mods, throttle body mods, MAF mods, see a pattern. One mod leads to another which leads to another before you know it your broke I've been modding my SLK on and off for a bit now.

One of our site sponsors TVT Design have a number of performance mods for the 170. I'd recommend contacting them and letting them know you found them here.

Well the pulley alone is around $650 before the core refund; the oversize intercooler is around $300 add about $150 for the hose's/clamps/ect.. it adds up fast not to mention all the down time. There’s so much you can do to increase the power/handleing of the little 230, just keep in mind the more you do the more you hurt the reliability of the car.

yeah that's true but i also have an '02 dodge pickup but that thing gets like 11 mpg so even if the car is down it would still be better to push it then drive that gas guzzler much longer haha

, i had one of those gas hogs i don't miss it. Do a search and see what kind of mods other guys are doing to give you an idea of whats involved. There are alot of good mods out there and of course just as many bad one's, so do your research before you spend the time and money.

This is a good source for parts and info. When I lowered my car I bought adjustable rear camber arms from TVT which helped my alignment problem.

Personally, K&N air filter and maybe a different silencer, then drive it and enjoy. Feel the need for speed, get a newer SLK AMG.

Seconded! You can live in an SLK, but it's not really ideal! :-)

I am not an SLK230 tuning expert, but here is what one Mercedes Tuning Company says a $400 ECU tune on an SLK32/C32/SRT6 (all the same AMG 32 engine) does:

We have mastered our C32/SRT6 and Crossfire tuning! Some of the things changed include:
- removal of the speed limiter
- changing of the shift points
- raise the rev limit
- modify fueling - you will actually see an increase in mpg with the tune
- modification of timing values
- modification of torque maps
- much more!
We have a tune already completed for most cars and combinations of cars out there already, so we can get you on the road fast!

Not sure who are the SLK230 tuners. You could check with Anthony of TVT (a site sponser) and see if he offers an ECU tune for the SLK230. If your tuner isn't in your area, you most likely will have to remove the ECU from you car and ship it to them.

Actually, housing prices are in the toilet, you can get some great deals IF you can beat the @#$#@ real estate vultures to them. Our beloved government is giving really cheap loans, courtesy of us so .... now is the time to buy.

BTW I saw a 99 slk230 with LOW miles here in the SF bay area for ..UNDER 4K. I'm wondering what's wrong with it. Craigs List.
