Kleemann K1/K2 Kits for M111

I know that there's probably a bunch of people out there still with the pre-facelift M111 engine in their SLK230 who, like me, are heartbroken that the ASP pulley kit seems to no longer be offered.

I was doing some online searches because I'm a few months away from considering an R171 model to compliment my R170, and I stumbled upon Kleemann's website and noticed that they still list two upgrades for the M111 engine, described as follows:

230-K1: A redesigned crank pulley and a new serpentine belt. Up to 225 HP and 335 Nm (248 lb-ft) of torque.
230-K2: K1 + a long-tube exhaust header. Up to 240 HP and 370 Nm (274 lb-ft) of torque.

I'm not too far off from a Kleemann authorized dealer, but, short of contacting them, has anybody installed/had installed either of these options on their car? I'm curious about price, realistic gains, etc. I've found some sporadic information online through doing searches, but all information seems a bit outdated or lacks enough detail. Am I nuts for wanting to upgrade this engine, especially when I've got 125k on the odo?

I'd greatly appreciate price, reliability, and gains information. Thanks guys!

that seems like a lot of mileage to be upgrading performance, although those don't seem like modifications that would hurt your engine (not sure about the crank pulley though, is it adding extra boost?)

Btw, why do you think an R171 would be saying nice things about the R170? It may be jealous of a "former love"

Yeah I know that it's a lot of miles...but engine still runs strong and I'd love to be able to have the extra power in this car. To my knowledge, the ASP crank pulley increases boost from 6psi to 10psi, so I'd probably expect similar increases in the Kleemann setup, but again, I'm not sure.

I absolutely love the R171, but I fully plan on doing it in addition to my R170. I absolutely love both cars and I wouldn't give up my 170 for anything!

I contacted ASP several weeks ago, the pulley is still offered, they just don't have anyone sending back cores to be made into new ones. I gave them my contact info and told them I was highly interested. I may just pull mine and send it to them at the end of this summer if I don't hear from them before then

Very cool! Do you know what they charge when sending your own core and did they give you a time frame?

I know that they used to charge $650 but $200-300 or so was core charge.

I don't know what it would cost, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't be the price as if you sent your core back. Turn around time is about 3-4 weeks once they receive a factory pulley

Hallo my friends. I have built a 2 custom made pulleys for my r170. I installed them last week in my r170 and in my friends c200

I will only tell you 1 thing. Psi 13.3 just imagine the power it gives out.
I just installed a 4bar fuel pressure regulator (35$ ebay) and the cars are rocking. No need to clamp the maf sensor as it doesn't go in to safe mode.

if you think it wont ruin your thread I can post pictures and details here. Just for info. My car spinns even at 3rd gear... I will have to put bigger wheels and tyres now :-)

my mechanic can copy this pulley without need for to send tyour original one. I think the cost will be like 400-500 $

^Not a problem, definitely go ahead and post pics/details!

I don't think I want to go quite as high as 13psi. I definitely want a compression boost, but within a reliable spectrum that won't blow up my engine or kill my supercharger within another 2,000 miles. From what I've read around the internet world, it seems that the consensus is about 10psi as a safe maximum.

My custom made pulley is 23cm diameter (from 18 cm our original one) and it gives out 0.9-1 bar (thats like 13-14psi) stable.

my mechanic can make whatever dimention you want. even 21 as the ASP one is (its 21cm isnt it?)

no need for maf clump or relocation as the car doesnt go into safe mode and i havent noticed any gaps in power over the rpm range.
maybe our cars wear a different maf than the 230 kompressor (here in greece we have a 200 kompressor with 194 hp) and maybe our mafs can read as much as 1Bar before going into safe mode. or maybe the ecu has a different program in it.

Also i installed a 4 bar fuel regulator.

the power is amazing. really now, the car needs biger wheels (17''-18'') and biger back tyres (245) in order to stay on the road. as it is with the 16'' 225 it spins even with 3rd gear.

i will soon go to the dyno to check it again. last month before the pulley it gave 192PS

PS. concerning the security and longevity of our compressor. Using the crank to supercharger pulley ratio 230mm/87mm * 5700 (max engine rpm) then we get 15.000 max supercharger rpms and that only when you hit the engines redline . So i dont think there will be a damage danger for the supercharger as the max I think is 16.000? And that for a sustained period of time not tents of a second every some days

the cost of a used compressor is like 300 euros . i wouldnt mind if it would fail after 3 years giving me the joy of 240 hp in the meantime...

Man, I'd be interested in one if we can do a small group buy... maybe get 5 made?

I'd be okay with 21cm like the ASP for < $500.

Interesting fact, the SLK230 uses the Gen 3 Eaton M62 supercharger.
The Colbalt SS uses the Eaton M62, gen 5.
The Gen 5 is coated and perform a lot better than the Gen 3. It's not outrageously expensive either, and ZZPerfornace sells the supercharger for $799. Wonder if they can fit us a few specific size pulleys as well. I'm going to email them and find out. Wonder how difficult it'd be to fit a gen 5 versus a gen 3.

If you guys are interested in pulleys I can make 21 cm ones like the asp or 22cm or 23cm like mine

as I told you I have installed a 23cm one and it works flawlessly.
Depending on the number of ones you would like me to make the price will drop. But even if you order just one the price is lower than 500$.

also I can sell them through ebay so you have ebay buyers protection.

Just noticed all the extra activity on this topic.

How much would you be selling them for? Also, do you have a dyno on it?

Also, what belt size did you need with the 23cm?

Thanks!

What other mods did you do along with the 23cm pulley? Did you do the MAF relocation? Colder Plugs? Fuel Regulator? Different belt?

ZZPerformance informed me the M62 in our SLK is completely different from the Colbalt. They can help us with a Super charger pulley, but not the crank pulley since they would need us to ship in the core first, then they modify it and press a larger pulley around it.

I read that the first iteration of ASP pulleys had issues because it wasn't balanced. So they ended up machining the stock balanced one and pressed a larger pulley on there.

I think I'll just go with ASP... It's $600+, but you can send in the core and you'll $300 back I think.

hallo again. i didnt do any mod EXCEPT ofcourse the fuel regulator as after installing the pulley the air/fuel ratio mixture was poor (from factory 12.5:1 it went to 16+:1 so i installed a 4 bar regulator that did the job)

i will have a dyno next week , i already have a dyno before the pulley install so the new one will clearly show the gains.

as i said i do the new pulleys like ASP , use our curent crank pulleys and then press a larger pulley on there. BUT i dont require your pulley to be sent to me as i have 2 spare pulleys at the moment. so i can mod them. so you will keep your vanila pullley too if youwant at some point to return to unmoded engine.

The belts codes i dont remember by heart but i have them on my car so i can check them when needed

Wow, sounds good! I'd be interested in one then depending on the price. I'd probably stay with 21cm and not go bigger. Is the 200 Kompressor over there different from the 230 Kompressor here? I'm not sure if the engine / crank shaft are the same. If it is, I'm definitely interested. Just hate to spend that much money and it doesn't work. I'll have to do all the other mods as well, which is fine. I'm probably pulling my super charger, swapping to a different supercharger pulley, then porting and polishing it as well.

Hey Paul, I noticed you're in Orlando! I'm from Orlando! Was down there for memorial weekend.

^Orlando is definitely a good time! Plus, pretty much anywhere in Florida is perfect to own an SLK.

I'm definitely interested to know if the crankshaft is the same, too.

I will have the answer on the following days.
