Bangkok soi food...Yes SOI food!

Soi food is food that is sold on the streets of Bangkok out of improvised kitchens on wheels: food carts. It is usually excellent and each 'kitchen' has a loyal bunch of customers. We usually buy our soi food from a cart very close to our apartment. Though we could eat it at little tables set up around the 'kitchen', we usually have the cook bag it to take home.

soi = street

Last Thursday The Bangkok Post Magazine dedicated its 3rd anniversary issue to "We Love Bangkok", Nine double pages were of unique Bangkok haunts. One in particular stood out among all the rest.

The double page picture that knocked me back in time was that of the Super Queen bar in Bangkok's Patpong district. I used to hang out there when I was single. So, this afternoon I drove downtown and found a parking space less than 10 meters from the Super Queen. The girls who were working there today did not remember my 'friend' San Porn...the former mamasan who showed me much of the raw side of her work. And, none of the faces today looked familiar (the march of time is cruel in the world's oldest profession).

I took this photo and left.

From Soi food to Shangri-La Thai

Two nights ago we went to Sathip....the Thai restaurant in the Shangri-La hotel. Though presented better than soi food the taste was just different...not better.

Tonight we'll prpbably have pizza at home.

Mmmmm!!! Southeast Asian food is great. I spend more than half my time in Malayasia. Have been to BKK also.

I agree that markets and street stalls are by far the best way to eat here.
