2nd warning in 25 years...
I've received my fair, and unfair, share of speeding tickets. This morning I'm running late for work and came up, rather quickly, on a motorcycle cop sitting a side street. He had his lights on before I even passed him. Being a somewhat law abiding citizen I slowed as soon as I saw him and started my pull over.
He came to the window where I had my license and registration already pulled out waiting for him. He took it and I half mentioned I'd gone almost 6 years with out a ticket. He said, "Hm, that's about to change." I said, "Yeah, I understand." He asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I said “no” and he informed me I was doing 62 in a 35...damn. He asked me why I was driving so fast. I said I was late for work, which to my credit was true. I thought, yeah now I'm going to be even later.
He looked over my stuff (I have a Florida License, Florida plates, driving in Vegas.) and asked how long I'd been here. I said since Apr. He asked me if I was aware the speed limit was 35. I said not at this place on the road, but I knew it changed a little further up.
He then asked if I was active duty (I have an NCO sticker on my car and we were right outside Nellis AFB.) I said no, my wife is (She was sitting next to me.)
He continued looking at my stuff and then slowly handed it back to me and said, "Slow down and be safe."
HOLY CRAP!! I though for sure I was busted! I kept thinking, “I just know he read my license plate frame as he walked up on my bright, shiny, little sports car”, it reads, "I'M NOT DRIVING FAST, I'M FLYING LOW".
Anyway...that's my story and I'm sticking to it...gratefully.
