You could try using antibiotics on them (I don't believe I just typed that ).

I had this happen in the past after I'd hit a bird at speed, and bits of it got stuck in the engine compartment. Ants everywhere including inside the cabin. I suggest popping the hood and taking a look-see.

Question
I'm experiencing an ants crawling outside of my car as well as inside . I wash my car and they keep coming back. Do you know any chemical that is safe to use on the outside and the inside of my car that i can use to get rid of these ants. This is a brand new car so i do not want to mess up the paint.

Answer
Usually if ants are crawling on the outside of the car the cart is parked under a shrub that has ants on it an they are crawling from the shrub to the car. There may be a branch that is touching the car as an access. Try to determine where the ants are coming from and attack them there if you can. IF they are just crawling on the ground and then the car you can spray an insecticide for ants (Raid etc.) around the car and this will lay down a chemical barmier that the ants can not cross. I agree I would not spray the paint since some insecticides have a carrier in them that could damage the paint. It maybe also that you are parking under a tree that has aphids and the car is being dripped on. Aphids and scale insect suck the plant juices from the plant and secrete a substance called honeydew which is high is sugar content and sticky. Ants harvest the honeydew for food. Check and see if your car is sticky and if so keep it washed off and try not to park under a tree.

Inside the car spray any house hold insecticide and this will kill the ants there. Something like Ortho Home Defense will work fine.

If you have access to a sealed garage there is one last thing you can try. You can try using a smoke bomb. This is the type of insecticide that you put in a little cup of water which activates it and it gives off insecticide smoke. I once had insects crawling around I could never find out where they were coming from. But I had a garage that I could use. I opened all the doors hood trunk everything I could open bombed the place thoroughly and I got rid of all the bugs. Just make sure that you put one bomb in the trunk on a newspaper, and one bomb in the passenger car and also on a newspaper. It leaves no residue so it won't hurt the car. I was crazy at the time, so I put a bomb under the engine compartment as well.

Weird, never had ants attack my car. I've had wasps try to build a nest in a car that was parked for a week. But those are very easy to get rid of. I've heard of mice building nests in a car. But never ants.

They are pretty simple creatures. Like other's have said, they are either following a food source or a queen. Hopefully not a queen.

Don't know that I would want to be zipped up inside a car after it had been bombed or sprayed with household insecticide. Everything you touch is possibly coated with toxins.
