New Kind of Tire

This is TRULY TOMORROW!

You heard it here......

Radical new tire design by Michelin. The next generation of tires.

They had a pair at the Philadelphia car show.

These tires are airless and are scheduled to be out on the market very soon.

The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires.

This is what great R&D will do, and just think of the impact on existing technology:

a... no more air valves
a... no more air compressors at gas stations
a... no more repair kits

SCAN DOWN & SEE.

These are actual pictures taken in the South Carolina plant of Michelin. It will be awhile before they are available to the automotive industry.

I've seen it before. It's a neat idea, but I just can't get over it's looks. I also question how capable they are when really pushed.

Either way, I wouldn't be able to buy them. I need a sidewall even if it served no other purpose than covering those ugly spokes

x2. I can't handle the looks of the bendable spokes. the idea is innovative however.

That would be the reaction of most people, me included. However, there's no reason why they couldn't have a cosmetic sidewall with no structural strength to make them look like a conventional tyre. In testing they would not want to obscure the technology, but for actual sales I'm sure they would look very different.

x3, I can't get over how ugly it looks, I've seen those a couple of years ago and thought i was a nice idea but not for me, not now anyways. Even if they cover the ugly spokes, I'll have an issue thinking that my tires are flat all the time.

I LOVE them...it looks like the car is floating on air. I'm guessing the tires are lighter? no more steel belt? smaller rims also? I believe they've been calling it the twheel?

in a sense, they remind me of a motorcycle with a single sided swingarm; lighter, innovative and kinda space age looking. you gotta wonder if there is enough lateral stiffnes for hard cornering...
