In a statement released yesterday, the Kansas City Police Department says that the 10-year-old girl woke up feeling hungry. She wanted something from McDonald’s so she headed into her mother’s bedroom to ask for a ride there. She found the mother asleep – after all, it wasn’t even 8 o’clock in the morning.
In similar situations, most children would have settled for a bowl of cereal or whatever they could find in the fridge or the kitchen cupboard, but not this girl. She took her mother’s Chevrolet Tahoe and planned to drive herself to the nearest McDonald’s establishment.
Sadly for her, she only made it a few miles from her home – which is an accomplishment of itself, but that’s an entirely different story. She got lost and then, adding insult to injury, crashed the Tahoe into a Honda Pilot that had the right of way.
“She attempted to turn at 12th and Olive [Street], but since she was an unlicensed 10-year-old, she failed to yield to the Honda coming in the opposite direction,” the PD says.
“Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, as did an electrical utility box and a stop sign. The girl was transported to the hospital with minor bumps and bruises. The other driver was not injured. The girl did not make it to McDonald’s,” the same statement mentions.
So not only did this girl wreck her mother’s car, but she was also left without her delicious (and totally not nutritious) breakfast and will probably be grounded for the rest of her childhood years. They do say that Wednesday is the hardest day of the week, right after Monday.
