Honda Civic driver chases, shoots and kills a Mini Cooper

“Do you have a problem?” the suspect reportedly said before firing.

LYNNWOOD — The man driving the Mini Cooper was confused.

Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, a stranger in a gold Honda Civic tailed him southbound around the 15600 block of Highway 99. The Honda weaved around and flashed high beams, according to a police report filed in Snohomish County Superior Court.

The man didn’t know why the other driver was acting so erratically. He tried changing to the other lane and speeding up to get away from the Honda.

At an intersection, the 24-year-old man driving the Honda Civic pointed a long-barreled rifle at the other man, court papers say.

“Do you have a (expletive) problem?” he reportedly said.

Scared, the Mini Cooper driver turned down 204th Street SW. The suspect allegedly fired the gun, hitting the car near the passenger-side headlight, and drove off.

The Mini Cooper sputtered, leaked fluid and wouldn’t start back up.

A witness corroborated the victim’s account, and a dash camera in the Mini Cooper captured parts of the incident, including when the gun was fired. The video also showed the Honda’s license plate.

Lynnwood police arrested the suspect later in the day. He said he didn’t know anything about the incident. He said he had been at a friend’s house in Everett and had taken I-5 to his home in Lynnwood.

Police reported he had two warrants for driving with a suspended license and has previously been investigated in connection with stolen vehicles.

He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail for investigation of first-degree assault, drive-by shooting and malicious mischief.
