I'm 73, have two bum knees and have no complaints about getting in and out of my SLK with the top down. Yes, it's not as easy as getting in and out of my GLK, but that's a question of the distance between the ground and the driver's seat, not country of origin. I doubt getting in and out of a Mazda Miata or Pontiac Solstice would be any easier. Top up is another matter entirely. It makes getting in and out very uncomfortable and I feel like I'm doing yoga or some other form of contortions, so I avoid it like the plague. Not a problem though, since my SLK is strictly for fun, so I only drive on sunny days and only park in my garage or places where I feel comfortable leaving the top down. Definitely would not want to own a coupe as low slung as the SLK.
