Question For Folks With A Mercedes With Keyless-Go

I put this in OT because the offending vehicle is my 2015 GLK350, but Keyless-Go is pretty ubiquitous on Mercedes cars, so some here will probably have either a newer SLK or another Mercedes.

The question is: Do you ever get a "Key Not Detected" message when you press the START button and your key is wherever you normally carry it? Mine is always clipped to a belt loop on my right side.

I don't get the message all the time, or even often, probably no more than 6 or 7 times in the 13 months I've owned this GLK. Usually happens when I first get in the car in my garage. Door detects the key and unlocks. Get in the car, hit the start button, get "Key Not Detected" message. If I then remove the start button and use the key as a key, the car starts. If I use the key to lock the doors while still in the driver's seat, the press the start button again, the car starts. Because it only happens rarely, I was not surprised when my dealer couldn't find anything wrong when they ran diagnostics on the car. They put a new battery in my key, but it's still happening.

Anyone else have this problem, or know someone who does?

We have a 2014 GL450 and my wife has never mentioned this. It does take a few seconds to recognize the key sometimes. I don't know how often it looks for a key.

FWIW I pulled the keyless go dongle out of my ignition and dont use it. I always just stick the key fob into the ignition to start my car. I feel like it's more secure and reliable, and keyless go has always been an unnecessary "convenience". The dongle (button?) has been in my junk drawer for 6 years between the SLK350 and the SLC43.
