Guy pulled out from inside lane, and bang, insurance say it's a possible write off. Further info to follow

Question

Check your Insurance details, you should be able to keep the car after a pay out as it's your car.
Don't let them just take it and offer you some money.

Got full dash cam footage that shows him pulling into my lane, so fingers crossed, found out though that it's galvanised, will need new wing, passenger door and side skirt, but the rear wing may need just a touch up.

Question

Write offs or total loss are generally over 50% of the value.
£5000 should easily fix that damage.
All cars are galvanised now days so any new original panels should be.

Cheers Russ

This is a 2005 model so I'm a little unsure what value they would put on such an old car, albeit being immaculate, OR WAS. Can anyone give me an inkling as to value so I'm forearmed.

And PistonHeads: https://www.pistonheads.com/classifi...ansmission=ATO

Same as all SLKs....wide range of prices.

Suggestion.
Go into local MB dealer and ask what they'd give vs an SLC (in another car, just passing )

You'll be lucky! My guess is that it'll be valued at around £10k, 12 at most! The forecourt prices for early 55's don't reflect reality but insurance companies deal in hard realities. That looks like a write off job.

When you take out insurance and the insurance company asks you what the value of your car is that is in no way reflected on their valuation of the car. Most insurers these days have stopped bothering as they value your car.

To you it may be worth £20k to them it's worth 'blue book' and not even the top end of blue book.

You need to get gap insurance to make sure you don't end up with a wrecked car that you cant replace. Insurance is largely a scam!

All car bodies are galvanised these days. Well, have galvanically applied protective coating to be precise. All it means is that you have to clean up weld areas before welding to ensure proper penetration and avoid weld contamination. ( It also means you can bluff the customer into hiking the bill some )

Without seeing more photos ......
and what can be seen seems a very simple repair

New front wing bolt on
N/S front door complete bolt on and off
N/S side Sill clip on [ poss metal door sill may not have any damage ]
N/S rear wing looks like paint markings / scratches req painting

So full side respray and blend in buy it back and repair .

I had a similar thing happen a couple of years ago. I had an E46 325i that was low mileage and immaculate. I got side swiped and the first thing the 3rd party insurance did was write it off. I argued back and sent them lots of pre accident photos (including proof of mileage and purchase invoice) and then took photos of autotrader ads for similar condition low mileage cars and the asking prices. I then went to the best body repair shops in my area and got them to quote as if I was paying for repairs. After a bit of arguing down the phone they eventually valued it at £1000 under the the autotrader prices I sent them and paid for the repairs.
Don’t let them get away with writing it off unless it is unsafe to repair, be patient and argue the point until you are happy with the result as they are all to willing to write cars off when they are repairable.
Hope this helps?

UPDATE!!!!!!! Everything's gone well, insurance management company satisfied it was the 3rd party's fault after viewing my dash cam footage, (recommend you buy a dash cam). Don't even have to pay my excess, so it's new door, front wing, sill cover and any badges plus wheel alignment check and spray panels to match.
