Summer Home

Guys,

Do any of you live near Ojai we have just sold a place in France because the attitude of the locals had become intolerable to me and are looking for a new place the wife has family dotted around CA and i drove around Ventura County a little when we where last visiting an it looked real nice but you can really get the feel of a place from looking at a web site or from a quick drive and was looking for any insight you may have.

I know this might be a long shot but thought i would post anyway.

Thanks very much

Dan

Sid is probably close as he states he's usually on the 101 freeway (the heaviest traffic is usually between the 101 and 405, almost rush hour every hour). Ventura County is nice and not as congested as Los Angeles County. Santa Barbara County is just north. Lots of places to drive around and relax just north of LA county.

You can use Google Earth to look at satellite photos of the neighborhood you're looking at. Just need the street address.

Cheers mate,

I have had a look around with Google Earth and it looks nice enough i guess i am just looking for somebody who knows the feel of the place you know its like the place in France looked nice but the locals where tossers and acted like us and the few other Brits in the same area where somehow polluting the place yet the other nationality people who also lived in the area where accepted fine.

Its the same in the UK some ways where people from one area are not accepted in another but go for a drive down the road and they welcome you with open arms i just want to find out what the attitudes of the people are without the financial expense of buying the place and then finding out.

I understand mate. I do not have a feel for the area but will ask if my wife knows anyone in that area. I'm hoping other forum members can chime in.

Yup! I'm close by. Work in Camarillo, which is sorta close to Ojai. Commute from LA everyday!

It's all good because I get to drive my SLK during this long commute! Puts a smile on my face everytime!

Ventura is definately a lot nicer than LA. I don't know much about the city (Ojai) though. Heard they have a nice spa there. Plus Santa Ynez valley is close by if you're into wine, featured in the movie Sideways.

Thanks man i am sure the spa will go down well with the mrs and i think anywhere with wine is gonna be good for me when i see the bill for the spa.

I have been going a bit of hunting around myself and so far its looking good.

Thanks for the help guys and any other comments any of you may have are more than welcome.

My ex-sister-in-law and ex-girlfriend used to live in Ojai, and I've been through a few times. My very slightly informed opinion of the place is that it's very pleasant. It has a nice, laid-back, rich hippie vibe, great weather, beautiful scenery and a sort of sophisitcated agricultural / tourist / art economy. Nice place.

I second Sid's comment on the wine. Lots of great wineries nearby, and there are some good restaurants too.

i've been there a couple of times and i believe that lennyr's assessment is right on the money. it was a nice place to visit and it's not too far from laguna sega & sears point...

Hate to break it to you Dan but wild fires are getting close to Ojai.

House survived mate yeah.

Mate was over on business so we got him a look around since he gets right to the point with him there is none of this well there is room for improvement stuff if its crap he says its crap and he liked it so prob going to go for it but with all the other stuff going on its not at the top of the list at the moment.

Got a good few things to take care of first but hopefully it's still on so potentially a visit to some of you guys is in order will bring an SDS with me also maybe it will be of some use for the odd mod.

Dan, when you decide to make a trip of it, the wife and I will make a road trip from Vegas. We could have a WSW SLKWorld meet.

A few weeks ago we were being couch potatoes and wanted to get out of the house. She suggested Solvang (keep in mind it's 9am Saturday morning)...7 hr's later we were relaxing at the jacuzzi in the Holiday Inn Express in Solvang. Excellent trip!

I spent a month around that area. messing about between santa barbara and santa monica. I must say it's my favorite place in the states so far. all seems a little expensive, but I guess if you get in now it's only going to get better. As far as being a brit there, the people were fantastic towards me, not sure if its just because I was a brit or its there normal attitude, but still i was very well looked after.

if you plan a trip out here, be sure and post it. i'm sure there are a lot more of us than can use an excuse for a road trip.
