Mechanic fired after taking customer's car for a 89 mph ride

https://www.foxnews.com/auto/mechani...-a-89-mph-ride

A woman who took her Porsche for a service checked her dashcam and discovered it was taken out for a spin - at speeds up to 89 mph.

Stunned Jane Symonds handed her sports car to Huw Lewis Tyres after it developed steering issues.

When she picked up her Porsche Boxster, Mrs. Symonds noticed a quarter of a tank of gas had been used so she checked the dashcam footage.

The dog coat saleswoman discovered the car had been taken out on the country roads of Lampeter in Wales with the dashcam showing it hit speeds of 89 mph.

Mrs. Symonds said: ďOne of my neighbors could have seen the car being driven like that and thought it was me. It could have damaged my reputation."

Mrs. Symonds informed the police and trading standard officers.

She said: "That car was tarnished by what happened, itís damaged goods to me now."

"I just didnít want to drive it again knowing someone had taken it out on local roads at such dangerous speeds."

A spokesman for Huw Lewis Tyres said: "One of our staff members has been dismissed for misconduct and we have passed the matter onto the police, so itís in their hands now.

"We spoke to the lady concerned at our Aberystwyth garage where she received an apology and have seen the dashcam footage ourselves. What happened is obviously very disappointing for us as a company.

"At the end of the day we are a locally-based family business who donít want to lose a valued customer so we will be speaking again to this lady about this unfortunate event."

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesperson said: "I can confirm we have received this report and are looking into an allegation of speeding."

Mrs. Symonds has now had her Porsche resprayed.

Resprayed ?
Because of stone chip damage or so the car is not reconized any more ?
One costly repray job for what the car is built for of 89 mph plus

Who footed the respray bill ouch.

Itís not clear why we are provided with info about her occupation, but one wonders how many dog coat sales it takes to buy a toy car?
( and a respray ) she must be quite a salesperson.
It is never nice for a repairer to go off and enjoy themselves in a customersí car, but a 1/4 tanks worth of blatting around Wales,,,, the car probably runs a lot better now.

This is an odd story, but the lady's (what the hell is a dog coat salesman? My dog came with a coat.) reaction is odder still. What is the purpose of a re-spray? What's so bad about a Boxter going 89 MPH? I understand that she's not happy that a mechanic took her car for a joyride, that wouldn't make me happy either, but the car is built to go that fast and much faster. Don't think the speed will effect the car adversely at all. I don't think somebody seeing the car travelling at 89 MPG would ruin her reputation either, unless her reputation is one of a boring spinster. If that's so, why would she have a Porsche in the first place?

I wouldn't want to find My car had been taken for joy ride by the garage, hence why try & hand it over with minimal fuel load..!! ...and do a "while You wait service" service, so it's not sitting around for the Service Manager to pop home for lunch...

But agree with the above, it Her Porsche Boxter has only ever been driven at 56mph, the Engine may well be in poor health & a decent run out may well have done it some good......!!

I used Mercedes me to prove they did not move my car for two of the nine days the said they were working on it. Shoulda seen the look on the service advisor's face when I showed him the evidence. Mercedes me also has a top speed alert. Needless to say, will never go back there, even though it's very near my SLC Downtime Storage Facility (house).

Thanks for that .....splurted coffee all over the screen!

Sorry ..... salesPERSON!

Daft woman.

Driving a Porsche around at 50 mph continuously probably does more harm to her reputation!

Come to think of it ....... driving a Porsche around Aberystwyth at all .............

Resprayed Porsche ......... how to knock 20% off the resale value!

89 mph. He wasn't even trying!

Is there lots of money to be made in selling coats for dogs in wales then ?
and if my car is driven at 89mph i have rights of getting it resprayed ?

Which i agree wont be as good as factory finish .

The garage oner i presume must of paid for the respray then .

What an odd story

Yes moan about the excessive speed which was done and driving of the car etc
But damage to the front paint work ?

A few stone chips yes but full respray or is it her neigbours saw the car speeding ? !!??

Very strange story need more inf.

A quick look and you are in Florida. Wales is slightly different to Florida. Whilst Florida has sun and warmth and the occasional hurricane Wales has lots and lots of rain, snow and freezing weather so taking a dog out in that sort of weather it needs additional protection from the elements.

Sometimes the only way to test you've fixed steering issues is to take the car out for a blast and test it!

Very true
But we dont know the whole story

She may of complained about pulling , shaking , juddering at high speeds who knows
And the only way to make sure its not there is a road test .

Im sure if
She would complain if it hasnt been road tested after the job was done .

The story is an odd one .

Ive never heard of a car respray after a road test front bumper damage if marked yes maybe stone damage well money put towards it .

But did she get a whole repray of car ?
