Mercedes-Benz plots new driver-focused SL for 2020

Quote:
Early plans to base a successor to today’s smaller SLC off the same underpinnings have been abandoned following a recent decision not to replace the junior Mercedes roadster due to dwindling sales.
Well ghee if the R173 would look like the 2020 SL in the pic above sales might would increase..

Eighth generation of the legendary convertible will return to its sporting roots, sharing a new platform with the next AMG GT

Mercedes-Benz is preparing to revive its iconic SL as a lighter, faster and far more engaging model featuring engineering input from the German manufacturer’s AMG performance car division.

Autocar can confirm that the eighth-generation model will receive a traditional fabric hood in place of the folding hard-top arrangement that has been used for the past two incarnations of the SL.

It is scheduled to reach UK showrooms in 2020 based on an all-new platform, key elements of which are set to be shared by a planned successor model to the AMG GT.

And with the SL having a fabric top, there will not be a hard top convertible anymore???

The vehicle in the picture is just a concept? Is it of an SL? It seems to have 4 seats also

n a further departure from today’s model, it is also expected that Mercedes will provide the 2020 car with a 2+2 seating layout. Autocar has been told that AMG is keen to give the new SL the same sort of practicality as the Porsche 911, with a set of rear seats capable of accommodating adults for short journeys or, alternatively, luggage as an extension of its boot.

Yep I know it got 4 seats. However I do like the look of the front of the drawing. What is the point of another SL if it is bigger and fatter than the last one.

Anybody remember what the SL was all about.

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a grand touring car manufactured by Mercedes since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sportlich-Leicht, (English: Sport Lightweight). The original idea was suggested by American importer Max Hoffman, who perceived a market for a toned-down Gran Prix car tailored to affluent performance enthusiasts in the booming post-war American market, which remains the primary market for the vehicles.

William here is an older article from May so far there are no new news for the SLC. What really surprises me is that MB has no plans for the SLK/C since BMW just got the new Z4 out and MB competes with BMW in every Segment.

If the SL will no longer have a hard top, and the SLK/SLC will no longer be produced, that means no more hard top convertibles.
I don't wonder sales going down, considering you buy one of these, and you use it occasionally, keeping it for many years, at low mileages.

This decision might also influence the price of older models going up.

How can anyone buy SLK/SLC/SL and use it occasionally?! Is that even possible? If anything I'd say people drive more because it's good for the souls, such a pleasure to drive.

SL 2020 doesn't even look like an SL, that's not attractive at all. Saw an SL today at the red light driven by an old but handsome, silver daddy. Very masculine but I enjoyed the view

You are totally right
But what I mean about occasionally is that an SLK is not a daily driver for most people I know.
It is for me (a daily driver/only car), although I too feel sorry for wearing it off, so I sometimes choose the bus.
