Minor rant

Guess I am an oddball. Any time I consider a new (to me) car, I consider a lot of things. Since most are at least semi exotic or low production (few of my cars had long production runs) and I tent to buy when depreciated out, even before looking for a car I obtain a service manual (preferably electronic) and if a computer car, a way to at least talk to it (have done a lot of reprogramming of cars in the past, am considering a KEES).

Now I tend to pitch answers to questions from the standpoint of resources (though the WIS is the most user-hostile software I ever saw and my German is not that great, recently gave up on finding the fuel pump relay in a R171) but at least have a way to find various things.

What would be more useful in the profile column than number of posts would be skill level from "need help in finding the dipstick" to "can remove the rear balancer bolt on a M272 without pulling engine or trans".

For example recently there have been a number of posts concerning top that do not work properly. My Autel Diaglink (plug - about a Benjamin on Amazon) tells me what the computer thinks about all of the roof switches, any one of which can block proper operation.

Point is beyond a certain age cars need either a resident/local mechanic who knows what they are doing or an ability/desire to learn how to DIY. (Have been accused of using too many acronyms. Is part of an evaluation).

So is one of the really valuable capabilities of a forum, we mix many different people and like to help those in need. Just is sometimes hard to find the real cries for help among all of the "Howdy Doodys"

Not a bad idea but bad from the forums point of view
Verticalscope owns hundreds of forums
and uses the cookie cutter style of maintenance and operations

Who is to say what their level is?
Should the forum give them a test to get a golden wrench icon?

The real cries for help are heard and answered
The fake do not reply and do not return to the forum.
The spammers (certificates, passports) are banned
