2019 Mercedes-AMG A35 Coming to Paris Motor Show With 4Matic All-Wheel Drive

After the A-Class went one step ahead of the game with the W177, Mercedes-Benz is much obliged to pass the torch to Mercedes-AMG for the A35. The hotter model is the star of a two-picture teaser campaign, and according to the three-pointed star, expect the secret to unfold this October at the Paris Motor Show.

The five-door hatchback will be joined by the sedan and CLA as Mercedes-AMG sees fit, with at least one of those 35s coming to the United States of America. The A-Class Sedan (V177) is the most likely contender, but donít dismiss the CLA (C118) just yet.

Turning our attention back to the A35, the hot-but-not-exactly-sizzling-hot hatchback will feature 4Matic all-wheel drive without the + suffix youíd find on the E63 S. As far as we know based on previous reports, Mercedes-AMG wonít offer RWD-biased driving mode either.

Painted in an exterior color that goes by the name of Sun Yellow, the A35 4Matic is confirmed to hook up a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a dual-clutch transmission. Mild-hybrid assistance is also expected thanks to EQ Boost, but we'll have to wait and see if that's possible at this price point. The suck-squeeze-bang-blow is expected at more than 300 horsepower, overshadowing the A250 4Matic by a long margin.

As you can tell from the two pictures, the Panamericana grille isnít featured on the 35. Youíll have to wait for the A45 if you canít make do without it, or wait for a tuner to come up with an aftermarket solution. On the other hand, the A35 will feature four exhaust tips, located at the corners of the rear bumper.

Essentially a replacement for the A250 Sport of yesteryear, the A35 will be an interesting proposition in this segment. Competition from Audi and BMW will include the S3 and M130iX M Performance, with the latter expected to feature 300 horsepower. Regarding the next generation of the S3, thereís still debate as to what kind of firepower hides under the hood.
