Police Officer Chases Swan During Rush Hour in Sweden

As policing goes, it can be much harder and many times more dangerous, as we all know. Still, one cop from Sweden had his hands full when a swan started zigzagging between lanes during rush hour.

Video of the incident was posted online, where – you guessed it – it went viral. It happened on a road in Ropsten, near Stockholm, Sweden and it involved the aforementioned swan and one police officer and a police cruiser with the lights on. The cruiser came as backup, after the officer radioed in, Nicholas Fernholm, who caught the whole thing on camera, says.

You can see the video at the bottom of the page. It’s hilarious how calm the cop is and how determined to lead the swan back to safety, while the swan completely ignores him. It may be accustomed to the sights and noises of a busy road during the morning commute, but it’s clearly not familiar with taking directions from a policeman.

“I saw a police car with the sirens on and as I looked towards it I saw the swan and the policeman walking, that's when I started filming,” Nicholas says. At the time, he was at the bus stop, waiting for his ride.

“This was during the morning rush when everyone, including me, were on their way to work. He was calmly and gently showing the swan the way to the water, which was just 100 meters away,” he continues. “After I stopped filming, the Police kept showing the swan the way, pausing from time to time to let him rest, as this must have been stressful for him.”

Although the swan was extremely uncooperative, the story does have a happy ending. The cops managed to get it to safety, and no one was hurt. So we can laugh about it without feeling guilty.
