Wisconsin Woman Complains of Car Trouble, Finds Large Python Under Hood

Next time you end up with a cat stuck in your car grille, remember that it could always be worse. Much worse, especially if you’re afraid of snakes. One Wisconsin woman found a large python coiled around her engine and it took 2 police officers and a snake specialist hours to get it out.
According to a post on the Omro Police Department Facebook, officers received a call for a motor assist from a woman who thought her car was “running strangely.” She pulled over and opened the hood to have a look at the engine of her SUV, and to her surprise, she saw a live, giant snake wrapped around it.

Two officers on patrol arrived on the scene and, after taking the necessary precautions, tried to untangle the snake and eventually fix what was wrong with the car. They noticed that, ironically, the serpentine belt had come off but they could do nothing about it, what with the snake stuck between the engine and the plate.

They struggled to remove it but found out that it was too strong and “stubborn.” Eventually, they called for backup themselves, in the person of snake expert Steve Keller. They also called a towing company to take the SUV in for repairs.

The story has a happy ending, though.

“The snake has been identified as a Ball Python (originally thought to be Burmese). It worked its way between the engine and the skid plate,” the Omro PD writes. “The reluctant reptile is alive and well, just tired and scared.”

“Thanks to Steve Keller for driving from Menasha to get the snake out. Steve does educational programs and also provides rescue and adoption services for snakes,” the post continues.

No word yet on how the snake got inside the car or where the woman might have picked it up from.
