So the official history says Bertha took the first car without Karl’s knowledge.
So we have the invention of the first car,
But Before we have the invention of the first scenic roadtrip,
We have the first car theft.
Forgot to invent the first ignition lock. D’oh!
The fable also says she stopped at pharmacies/apocotheries/drug stores for methanol or ethanol to fill the tanks, but those emporiums would sell more than just that and drugs in those days,,,, there’d be perfumes, soaps, confectionaries,
Yep, nicking into town for some retail therapy.
And then there is the matter of the long journey, well who isn’t bored
with their local shops, and given the chance to go on to the next and the next, more than a days horse ride away,
why not treat yourself?
And the small matter about how the car came back and when? There is much more to this story than we are being told.
Karl’s first mistake was to not build two cars up front . Bertha’s zoom zoomed off in the thing, how is he going to nip into town for some more 5/8 x 2 inch bolts?
The best or nothing? Well she took the best thing going, he was left with nothing. So now we know that little marketing slogan goes
back to day one.
