Florida no longer has the worst drivers in the nation, study finds

TAMPA, Fla. — After coming in at number one two years in a row, Florida has been dethroned — no longer holding the title of "the worst drivers in the country."

According to a survey compiled by SmartAsset, a personal-finance company, Florida has dropped to eighth place for the most unsafe drivers in the country. SmartAssets had given Florida the number one spot for both 2016 and 2017.

The website bases its rankings on the number of drivers, DUI arrests, the percentage of drivers insured, tickets and people killed in car crashes.

The company says that despite dropping to eighth place, the state still has the lowest rate of insured drivers in the country at 73%.

"To go along with the drivers forgoing insurance, Florida has very high fatality rates," the report states. "Fortunately for Florida residents, that fatality rate has fallen by a third since 1994. That year, Florida had a fatality rate of 2.2 fatalities per 100 million miles driven.

Except that foreign tourists will have to show a valid license
and, more importantly, purchase insurance when renting.

Living in Florida I have to strongly disagree with this survey, LOL.

Just today a BMW wanted to cut me off, another Cadillac SUV purposely came too close to the passenger side then one Mercedes ML wanted to back into my front bumper. I hate people, SMH! Thank God I'm quick with my horn.

So, except for Louisiana, all the Southern states are on the list,,,,,hmmm. Pretty odd.

We folks in the northern states also drive year round. We have a variety of winter weather that can range from mild to horrific, so we sometimes drive under more difficult conditions than drivers in the warm weather states. As a consequence, our drivers have developed higher level of driving skills.

I meant that southern states have clearer roads (no snow/ice) and they are out more hours of the day than their northern neighbors
How's that?

Nah, it’s because the old fogeys go to where it’s warm all the time and don’t know how to drive. Heck, some of them even drive around with license plates that reflect the Three Stooges to brag how old they are.

Another Florida Factoid!

Of the 50 states, Florida has the highest percentage of uninsured drivers! You'll either need a lot of luck or extraordinary skill to avoid getting killed or mangaled on Florida roads!
