A few weeks of hell

A few weeks ago I went to the doctor with chest pains and persistent cough. Doctor I saw diagnosed post nasal drip caused by hay fever, said it would take a while to go away take OTC hay fever tablets etc. She also looked at a lump that I thought was a hernia but she thought was probably fat, but booked an ultrasound anyhow.

So I stopped driving everywhere roof down, only went out on the bike after sunset (to be fair the heat was too bad anyway) and resigned myself to a summer of hay fever misery.

The cough got worse. Two weeks ago I was on my way back from Sheffield to Hull and I had to pull off the motorway as I had chest pains and couldn't breathe. Ambulance did an ECG and said "nothing cardiac, see your GP as probably muscular caused by the chronic cough"

Saw GP Monday 30th. To be exact saw prescribing nurse, who called the GP in as it was a bit more than "take these tablets come back in 7 days if not better"

Almost no breath sounds on right side; and the "maybe" hernia had incarcerated. Ambulance called. Within hours I'm in surgery.
Sidenote: I have a massive, deep set and worked on for years fear of hospitals and medical procedures. You can see how this is going can't you....
Two days on ICU, total 5 days in hospital getting mentally worse but physically better, sent home with antibiotics and instruction to rest a lot but move around as much as I can. Diagnosis of Pneumonia.

Why am I posting this? Because I need to vent; because I need support; because I've got an SLK I can't drive for a few weeks... This has been probably the worst few weeks of my life so far!

Feel for you Tim. Glad you are on the mend.
Well done that nurse for spotting that something more serious was going on. Flowers for her I hope.
Lesson to us all - if health changes unexplainedly, be persistent with the medics. It's all too easy to be fobbed off.

There's a bright side, Tim.
Health issue found and being treated.
You are back home to recover and not in the Hospital.

You have a wonderful car just waiting on that first drive.
Right now it's raining, so no roof down anyhow.

Is the battery on a tender, or has it been disconnected?
If not, have someone do it for you.

We want that first day back in the drivers seat to go well for you.

I wish you a speedy recovery, Tim.

I've been sat in it and run it up to full charge today, battery voltage was fine only took 20 mins of running to get it to stop taking charge. It'll be fine, hopefully going to the Elvington AMG meet next weekend with a friend driving me so it'll get a run out then, plus it's in bodyshop for some bits next week so my wife will be running it around a bit as well.

Maintenance charger is there if I think it'll be laid up for more than a couple of weeks but it should be fine in these tempreratures for that long.

Good luck to you . Takes longer for us old guys to get well again so don't get discouraged if it takes longer than you think. BUT stay on top of it and make sure there IS improvement, no matter how slow.

+1 on all the foregoing

but less of the old Len. i had pneumonia, for my 40th birthday.

I know how you feel Tim. Properly. Console yourself with this. I coughed so hard that I coughed myself out of bed. ( as if it didn't hurt enough already). The thermonuclear dose of antibiotics I was given meant I had to skulk around in the shadows like some modern-day vampire, avoiding the light. Still, it beats the alternatives

Speedy recovery!
Earlier this year I had a TIA attack and was banned from driving altogether for a month. And the message here? When I got back to driving the SLK it was better than Christmas - you have that ahead of you
