A Quick Drive Through the History of Mercedes-AMG's Black Series

If you're looking for an incredibly powerful and capable performance car that can also pull duty as a daily driver, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S is one of the best options out there. It's a quiet and comfortable sedan when you need it to be, but when you want to let it loose on the track, it turns into a tail-happy, 503-horsepower rocket.

But if you're looking for a Mercedes that's more track focused and less of a daily driver, it's not the regular AMG you want. For that, you've got to go Black Series.

The Black Series badge first appeared on the SLK 55 AMG, and only four other cars have worn it since. They're lighter, more powerful, more focused, and somehow sound even better than the regular AMG cars they're based on.

Recently, the folks at Carfection got their hands on three of the best Black Series cars ever built—the CLK 63, the C 63, and the SLS—and headed to a track to see how the Black Series has evolved over time. And also to smoke some tires. A lot of tires.

The AMG C63 was one of the toys I fell in love with while sitting at the stealer for my airbag recall to be cleared, recently. If I only had 87k laying around......... I'd even give up the 22 second roof magic show, for that monster........
