A photo of your first car ??

A couple of recent comments have had me thinking of my first car and I thought it would be nice to see what we all started off with !
Like the first kiss , the first car is something that I think everyone remembers and will allways have a soft spot for , I know I still love to see a Beetle and hear that very distinctive sound of the engine , not quite a V8 AMG , but still brings a smile to my face !!
My first love was a slightly customised Volkswagon Beetle 1303s with wider arches , low profiles and 1650cc engine ....
Looking forward to seeing others' first loves ..........

Not the actual car, but looked just like this. 1963 VW. Driving to Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevadas, I was lucky to get her up to 40 mph

But, drove the heck out of her, drove her EVERYWHERE, off road, on road, dirt roads, no roads.

Side valve four cylinder engine that was originally made for the Austin Seven. It would reach 70 mph though ( if you had enough nerve) In those days I did

No offense Jon, but that has to be the UGLIEST car I have ever seen. I bet you weren't getting a whole lot of "action" with that (as in the "chick" department).

Fromero, I had the exact same car, I want to say it was like a 1976. Mine was white with red interior. Beautiful wood dash and dual holly carbs. that were a pain in the arse to keep balanced. At the time I had an English Sheep Dog (called him Chewy). He would sit in the passenger seat next to me and I would tie a bandanna (scarf) around his head to keep his ears from flapping around in the wind. He must have weighed at least 100 lbs. It was a really fun car when it was running good.

One day I was driving down the freeway and the front passenger wheel just broke off the car! Right off the axel, don't know if it was the tie rod or what. Another story that I am happy to say I lived through to talk about it.

My first car!

My first car was a 1970 VW Beetle. The picture attached is not the one I owned (note the European license plate) but resembles the one I had very closely. And just think, my first car was a convertible. A lot of good memories flood my mind as I think back to that first car I purchased back in 1981. I remember back in high school driving around town in my car one day in freezing cold weather with about eight of us in the car with the top down. The looks and stares we received from others were priceless. Now those were some good times!

Ahh, good thread,

My first car was a B reg (1984), MG Metro Turbo.

Was a 1300cc with a cool whistle as the turbo kicked in.. ohh the joys of being 17 in a fast car..

The only difference between the picture and mine, was that mine was Black

Curro, this thread actually had me sit down and start listing ALL the cars I have owned since I was able to drive (legally, as I learned to drive several years before I was of legal age), and I have had a ton of them. I finally gave up trying to remember the exact vehicle year and chronological dates in which purchased. But, throughout that tenure, I have owned three Bugs and each one marked a time when I either didn't have money, or just needed cheap transportation.

1st car VW Bug - 1963 Bug, year: 1972 /bought from my sister when I first got my license for $350.00

2nd Bug - Had recently got married and let my wife drive the "good car" whilst I drove a 1971 Aermacchi Harley-Davidson to get back and forth to work. But then I got a new job as a sales representative and needed a proper car to call on accounts. Again, we were poor, but bought a 1973 V.W. Superbeetle (yellow) in 1979 for $1600.00, that was a really nice Bug, the best of all by far.

3rd Bug - We bought our first house in 1982, by then I had upgraded to another toy, the Triumph TR-6 like fromeros. But in order to buy the house, I had to scrape up every dollar I could to get the down payment. So, I sold the TR-6 and AGAIN bought a 1961 bug in 1982 for like $450.00. That was my last Volkswagon. But of course there have been several in the family. Probably the best year that I could remember (other than the 1973 Super Beetle that I had) was a 1967 that my sister drove.

Once we got used to that house payment and my career was still going strong, I drove that 1961 until about 1983 and then stepped up again into another toy, a 1972 Porsche 911, quite a jump!

First car was a very lethargic VW golf.

First "proper" car, rather than a beater, was an SLK 230 back in 1998. Picked it up from Grimsby, about 3 hrs on the train. First auto transmission I'd ever driven. My wife and I had huge grins on our face - felt like we'd stole it, couldn't believe we were in such a nice car.

Came across some pics of it the other day while looking for something else. Had a remus muffler and changed out the roll hoops to stainless steel.
