Mercedes Benz Club any members on here?

As title really I have just joined the UK Mercedes Benz Club for a year just to see how it goes. Which got me to wonder if anybody on here were also members?.Whether it really gives that much back to owning a Mercedes?.Having been members of other manufacturers clubs I am a bit sceptical as to whether you gain very much or its just to make the people running the club self important?.

I'm also a member Bob. The SLK days this year were organised and run by the UK Mercedes Benz Club, and they were great. Otherwise, I've done very little with them... one of the benefits (to me - and for this forum) is that I get access to EPC and WIS included with my membership, and I use that quite a bit to try to help other forum members.

I'm in the other lot, the MBOA

you'll find a huge overlap of members in both. I find the slightly more informal attitude at MBOA refreshing.

I like the predominantly roadster.coupe-model focus of SLK World even more. and Jeff's appetite for horse-meat.

I'm a member, but only joined a few days ago, just got my magazine today - not bad at all. Some of the documents in the Referance Library look useful. I'll see how it goes this year. The SLK forums here are much more active than the SLK section on the MB Club forum. If you've got a general interest in Mercedes cars rather than just SLKs, it seems worth joining.

My wife and I are joint members of the MB Club. I regularly visit the members' pages on the website. We attended the SLK meet at Mercedes World and an event in Chatsworth.

We've only attended 1 monthly meeting of the our 'local' group, and decided that it wasn't for us - unlike the SLK owners that we meet with regularly on this site.

Given that I have an SLK (obvs), the focus on the MB club site is much less SLK-orientated, so less interesting to me. Having said that, I enjoy the magazine, but I honestly don't see the need for it - everything in it could be catered for on-line, and the money spent on printing and postage could be better used.

I have found that as a Club, they seem to be slightly behind the times - the best example I can give is that they don't accept online payments for events - you can't even fill in a form online (though they will happily email a form, which has to be downloaded, printed, completed and then 'snail' mailed back, along with a cheque!

I'm NOT criticising the Club though - the guys are doing their best, and are all volunteers, trying to help other owners. Very much like this site, but over a much wider model range.

I'm told that access to the WIS and the EPC is pretty good and included in the fee - I haven't used either, so I can't comment.

Will I renew next year? Not sure, it is a subject for debate I think.

I am a member jointly with Tracy, I was quite active on their forum when I first joined, but since finding SLKWorld i find I go on it fairly infrequently now. We enjoyed the two 20th anniversary of the SLK events, organised by the club.

I may renew our membership if only to be able to attend SLK days, although I think they were open to non members at a slightly increased cost, so maybe not. Due for renewal at the end of Feb 17 so due consideration then.

The first of the SLK days this year, at MB World Brooklands, was open to non-members for just £5 more than the members price. However, the SLK day at Chatsworth later in the year (that I didn't manage to get to) was a members-only event. I have no idea what, if any, plans they have for next year though.

I think that some MB dealers offer discounts to MB Club members, although you may need to ask for it, and your mileage may vary.

I probably will renew my membership, for access to EPC and WIS, as well as keeping my options open for other potential meets and events too.

Yes, thinking about it you are correct Dave. Chatsworth was members only, and I had forgotten about the discount. I seem to recall reading something about a possible SLK event at Gaydon
(Aston Martin?).
