Question What dash cams do you use?

[done a quick search on the forum couldn't find the answer as I know "search is your friend" ]

Seen lots of dash cam footage from our weekends out and about and wondered what everyone was using? "Why?" I hear you ask...

Well, locally we have had a number of 'crash for cash' accidents and it occurred to me that, heaven forbid, if it happened to me or one of the family then it would be far easier if we had a level of evidence to prove innocence. Plus, having seen the likes of Mabel (@DAVIETHESCAFF ) and Russ (@55russamg) from the trips to Wales and the Lakes etc I want to start capturing my runs and enjoy the smiles afterwards

Haven't got a bottomless budget but willing to send $$$ it its worth it (recommended). Would prefer dual band (front and rear but this is not a deal breaker), discrete and HD quality recording. Not so worried about night time quality...

so, please inspire me to greatness (or in this case help me spend some money )

Thank for taking the time to read

Xiaomi Yi 2 paired to my Android Sony Xperia.
If you decide to purchase it and are not happy I am willing to pay for it (seriously)
Went for the GoPro, seller conviced me to the Xiaomi couldn't be happier

Sounds good but it could also work against you if seized as evidence.

Anyways, there are many free apps android/Ios that you may want to consider to use in your cell phone as an intro. Free at google play.

What dash cams do you use?

I used a SJCAM 4000 genuine not copy version cost me Ł48 a few years ago and now have the new gopro cube session 4 ..cost a lot more.....have it setup on a mount stuck On top of rear cubby between speakers .... Wide view and can still see rear parking sensor lights... gets a good wide angle including side windows (or persons in car.... ) ...

And if you worry about battery life.... just get one of those battery packs with a small non iPhone plug .....it will work with it attached and will charge the GoPro while it is running...

edit--I found this one for under $80US. The video is pretty impressive. Have to look for some reviews on this and the 119 version. Something for Christmas maybe

and here's a link (for us Canucks) for the A119 https://www.amazon.ca/Official-VIOFO...&keywords=a119 at $125 CA this is definitely a possibility.

Depending on size and where you mount it you could use a cheap sunglasses case/bag
if the spirit takes you.

Been pondering the same thoughts.

I bought an A118 version, but I didn't like the fact that the adhesive could be seen outside of the black dotted part of the windscreen making it a bit ugly from the outside of the car, so I ended up mounting it in another car and I'm still looking for the "perfect" discreet camera for the Slk. I've been toying with the Go-pro type (cheaper versions) as they seem to have better video quality, but I can't seem to find the right one for quality/budget and there are soooooo many copies/fakes around you never know what you are going to get.....

Sorry I can not as I sold the car and waiting for my new one.
It has a special strap that attaches the camera to the mirror and is very easy to be mounted.
I will try to find some photos of it in the internet and attach them.

Keep in mind that there is also a special Xiaomi Dash camera that is also very good for the price and it is this one

The lane feature seems a good idea, not so sure about the proximity warning for cars in front though, already got the wife for that.....

Been using this one for over a year. Cost $50 .Has 170 degree lens. Turn on car its on, turn car off, it's off. Used in court to show it was other drivers fault in an accident. He thought it was just my word against his till judge saw the video
Has all kinds of modes that I don't use. I just care about it recording. I would never drive again without a dash cam.
Everone please get one for your protection.

I have two of these , one in the slk 172 the other in the family car. Excellent little camera, hides away behind the rear view mirror, would not even know it was there. They can be got with gps but I did not want that.
E Prance mini 0801 5m pixel full HD.
I have it connected into the socket in the arm rest and the cable hidden up to the windscreen.

Quite a few of those listed above are either not available or too much $$$ (2-3-400$) for what I want to spend (like the a119 for $124CDN).

Still, an extremely useful thread

Sticky tape instead of suction cup FWIW. Price is right and one neg review out of 6 that I found Other 5 were good). Always going to get some poor reviews, just need to decide if its a deal breaker or not.
