Funny you bring up this story.
Back in August when I was looking for a 'vert, I saw the new 124 at my local Chrysler store. Took it for a test drive and it was soooooo much fun, I was ready to pull the pin on it (black on black).
Not one to rush into things though (I research most purchases to death), I kept researching autotrader ads. There was a yellow '03 vette that caught my eye at another local dealership but after reading about a multitude
of mech issues, I knew it wasn't for me.
At the time I limited myself to '14 or newer 'verts. I don't know why but one day I changed the older date criteria and went' to '12.
That's when I found my current ride.
Now I had a decision to make: did I go with a (cheaper) brand new unit or with a 4 yr old one.
One big problem I had was that with the Fiat, it only came with one engine variant. Base model was about $6000 cheaper than the top model BUT the top one still had the same engine as the base. It just had a few more 'toys' tacked on.
I knew that the '55 had a V8 in it. And it was more $$$ than the Fiat.
Hmmm.. Fiat vs MB? Let's look at a few more differences.
The Spiders powered by the same 1.4L turbocharged four-cylinder as the Fiat 500 Abarth. With 160 horsepower (165 in the 124 Abarth) and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, its more powerful than the Mazda Miata but more importantly theres also more torque.
Hmmm 160 HP vs 415-418 HP (it seems to vary for some reason depending on which article you read)
Hmmm 184 lb torque vs 398 lb torque.
Well, this turned out to be a no brainer. My '55 is presently being prepared for her long winter sleep.
Asleep but not forgotten. C'MON SPRING!!!!
