Sold my SLK55. Picked up an Italian.

After 5 years of driving, autocrosses, and track days, I finally sold my '07 SLK55.

On Saturday, I flew from DC to Cincinnati, bought an Alfa Romeo 4C, and immediately drove it 522 miles back to DC in a span of 11 hours... because I'm a crazy idiot.

The 4C is such a lovely car. Other than the parts everyone knows about... the exposed carbon tub, gorgeous curves, no power steering, etc. It's also surprisingly comfortable, I had no aches or pains in 8 hours of driving... but I will say it is LOUD in there when driving 75-80mph in Ohio with the engine 10 inches behind your head and the race exhaust (muffler delete) option. I drove it around today to a Cars and Coffee event, to an autocross, and to the grocery. I wasn't registered so I didn't race it this time - I will. The whole time I was thinking... Yea, I could totally daily drive this. I won't drive it daily though, I have a Scion FR-S that I drive every day.

I love it.

Thanks SLKWorld for all the great SLK info over the years!

That's a beautiful car, Mark!

I love Alfa Romeos and had a bunch of Spiders over the many years from 1969 to 2006. Wonderful, fun cars to drive and wrench. I almost moved to Switzerland in 1999 in order that I could have a company car in the form of an Alfa Romeo 156 Twin Spark. ;-)

The 4C is gorgeous. I've not seen one in black before; my choice would be yellow. But then I have a thing for yellow cars. Sadly, the 4C is a bit too snug for me to be comfortable in for any length of time.

Enjoy the heck out of it!

Good looking car I hope you have a Fiat/Alfa Dealer close by if you need service. FCA is under going a restructure a lot of dealers let there studios go and some will sell Fiat/Alfa thru there Chrysler Dealers just like in the old days with the Skl Clone. All that said the 4C is an awesome car enjoy it don,t forget to practice parking.

Can You Daily Drive an Alfa Romeo 4C?

I am really not a fan of Doug Demuro at all. You could absolutely daily drive the 4C. The rear visibility isn't all THAT bad at all, and there are rear parking sensors. I also have the coupe which is supposedly more difficult to see out of than the spider, but it isn't bad at all. A friend of mine who owns one is 6'2" and has no problems fitting. The lack of power steering doesn't really affect much of anything, I forget about it 95% of the time. When parking, once you move 1mph, the steering wheel isn't difficult to turn.

Doug also talks about the small sun visors, but I used them multiple times already, and they work just fine. He complains about the lack of cushioning in the seat, but I drove 8 hours last night without a single ache or pain and can't say the same about the R171 seats. He also complains about them not reclining back, but at their most reclined position, they're perfect... so why recline it more? He complains about the cup holders, I had a water bottle and a starbucks double shot espresso can in both the cupholders during my 522 mile drive - they both fit snugly and had no risk of spilling.

The audio unit he shows is different from mine - I have the older and supposedly worse unit... but I was able to pair my phone while driving on the highway in Ohio after I realized I forgot to do it before setting off. It took about a minute to find the menu and 30 seconds to pair. The sound quality isn't amazing, but it's definitely not bad for what it is - a spartan system in a spartan car.

Doug tries too hard to be funny, and he just isn't in my opinion. He does have a following though, so I guess people like it.

To my knowledge this engine is bulletproof and has a lot of potential regarding tuning.
Enjoy!

Thanks for your contributions over the years - especially on performance oriented suspension and wheel/tire combinations. Much appreciated!

Best wishes on the road ahead.
