A Tesla product that interests

From the BBC

Tesla shows off solar roof tiles - BBC News

Tesla are about to market solar panels that look more like roof tiles.

Although there are questions about why Tesla have bought the company making them,
this one interests me.

The likely cost, yet to be revealed, will probably be prohibitive for the likes of myself
in the early years.

I'm no eco warrior, the 55 backs that statement up.
But solar power interests me.
That awful panels and cost put me off.

This could be the compromise I'd be looking for.

The demo house will feature on Desperate Housewives.

As ive said before solar tech and battery technology has just started to advance slowly
And were seeing it in more cars now .
May not suit everyone but some it will .

And the matching solar tiles look great on any house .

No need for people to say there ugly .

Ya know, I believe they may have acquired that company for it's glass making/solar technology.

They would be able to use that technology to make a glass roof that is in reality a solar panel. That in turn would assist in it's battery operation.

Would allow for increased range if not unlimited range (on sunny days).

Wouldn't work for verts because:

1)who drives with the top up on sunny days?? and
2)cloudy days sun's not out so solar acquisition is limited.

Although tesla does have a vert, it looks pretty awful with the top down (like most where the top just kind of sits on top of the rear deck).

This would definitely work for hard tops and sedans though.

All true except the Tesla Roadster top doesn't sit on the rear deck when it is down. It is cloth and rolls up and goes in the trunk. There is also a hardtop, but it is either on or in a storage bag in your garage.

Around 2003-2004 (2005?) but it appears they were only meant to power blowers (ventilation) when car was off after a run.

As that was more than 10 years ago, the technology has improven so much that they are probably thinking of hooking it up to the cars onboard cells (as I had thought) for increased range.
