Parts and Prices (rant)

Today was the S500's turn to have a service and decided to trust it to an independent shop as I also have to pay quite a lot of money to repair my SLK trunk damage (found at another thread)
So....
Rear Pads Brembo 49.28
Front Pads Brembo 67.13
Cabin Filter Corteco 68.78
Wipers SWF (with wind breaker) 28.03
Engine oil Mobil1 9lt 118.40
Oil filter Mann 17.35
Labour cost 150
Total 498.97

The car didn't have any codes etc so no other work done except some visual inspections.

Looking at my records, the last service that resembles to parts at the authorized dealer was: front pads, oil and filter and a vanity mirror bulb that made my wallet lighter by 518 euros.
Oh! And part of these 518 euros was the windscreen washing fluid priced 15 euros. (must be a rare vintage fluid from the fountain of youth or something like that)

To my understanding it took me long to realize but sorry, never, ever again going back to the dealer.

I do not change air filters to the S500 as are after market that just need cleaning.
As for the second part, sorry I do not understand.
No windscreen additive was charged although they topped it up. Brake fluid was not needed. It was changed at a previous inspection.
Test cost? I do not understand sorry

Test cost as in test your brake fluid
But it was changed last year ?
And windscreen additive was topped up .

Windscreen concentrate additive is about 2.99 plus vat for 5 litres
15 euros sounds expensive .

Charlie, this is not meant to rub it in but:

My "add 1.5 l oil" light came on while on the autobahn (that's a laugh--it's just a regular highway that's no fun at all) for the first time since I've had the 55 (2 mo).

Read here that it's cause is variable and determined that it is not of much concern although it should be addressed (I have a dipstick and although its really difficult to see the oil level, it does look like it needs a drink).

I went to our local WallyWorld (as my usual store doesn't stock Mobil 1 0w40), it was $12 CDN (about 8 euros) for the litre. I guess Canuck prices aren't as bad as I thought. Course, that wasn't a dealer price as she hasn't been in for any servce during my ownership. That'll happen next spring

Just an observation.

The 4.5 l (5?) Mobil 1 0w40 is about $52 (so about 36 Euro) here. You must get really good (and cheap) sulphite-free wine though

Had the B service done on my SLK350 by my local Mercedes dealer on Monday, so here are some US dealer prices for comparison.

Mobil 1 Oil - 8 qts @ $9.35 ea = $74.80
Oil Filter - $17.60
Seal Ring - $2.09
Cabin Air Filter - $60.50
Brake Fluid - $18.70
Labor - $292.00*
Sales Tax (on parts) - $10.42

I'd mentioned that the HVAC blower made a constant "roar" when used, so while changing the cabin filter they vacuumed out the blower box and lubed the blower shaft at no additional charge, Purrs like a kitten now.

FWIW, Walmart price here for a 5 qt. jug of 0W-40 Mobil 1 is $25.47 and, here in Greenville, the sales tax on that would be $1.53.

* Labor charge was actually listed as $367, but then they applied a $75 "discount coupon". Based on their servicing of my GLK350 the amounts vary but there always seems to be one of these coupons.
