Interesting Oil Analysis

This was done a few years back on my 1999 SLK230 R170 that was later totaled. What's interesting about it is that the oil was change interval was 3.3 years and just under 6K miles.
The oil analysis came back with extremely low wear showing that the time factor is not that big of a deal.

Oil used was Mobil 1 0/40W Synthetic
I didn't use that car that much for those years as I had another car and usually ride my motorcycles.
I do believe in giving it an Italian tune-up once a month(running hard and fast for a fair distance) to burn off any impurities.

Also interested if anyone else here does oil Analysis to check the wear on their engines? I will do one on my new SLK250 at the next oil change.
I hope the attachment works

Ive had an oil analysis 6 years ago when I wanted to sell a bmw I had back then and thought that it would be nice for the new owner to have it.
Never did that again as I had to ship oil to the US and it was a real pain.
Here are the results but do not know if you can make any conclusions or comparisons. https://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/58048b45eb5fd/oil559.jpg?

Why do an oil Analysis on such a new car ( 250 ) ???
Do you think its worn out allready ?

Put your money you pay towards a more frequent oil change instead .

Most modern engines are built to last nowdays not like the past .......
And what they report will just worry you .........that theres slight contamination of antifreeze in oil or debris etc or or it needs changing

Just have an oil change every 3000 miles if your that worried.
Like brake fluid gets contaminated etc pointless getting it tested / paying - just change it
Its meant to every 2 years plus .

I purchased the SLK250 with just under 30K miles. It seems to run perfect in the 1500 miles I have owned it. But the records show the first oil change was at 13K miles. This SLK has a turbocharger and I'm sure there are all kinds of bearing and bushings that I want to check. I want to do the Analysis just to reassure myself that everything is wearing correctly as I usually keep my cars a long time.

I did an analysis on my Ducati and found fairly high iron wear using high dollar Motul oil. Switched to Yamalube and the wear went way down and the bike shifted a lot better.

As for changing oil more often I am a definite believer in that. Changed oil at 75 miles in my new Ninja 1000. My wife's new Hyundai was changed at 1000, then 3000, now is done every 5000 miles. I will treat my SLK to an oil change every 5k miles with Mobil1 0/40w. I always feel better treating my machines to fresh oil.

Totally agree with you there on frequent oil changes and i use mobil 1 0-40w and do mine just over a thousand miles a year i have other cars to use

Just rather put my money on oil than oil Anaylises a turbo will just fail for no reason .

How much does it cost you ?

It costs like $25. Just ask and the company will send you free special containers to ship the oil in.
They also test transmission fluid. They do lots of airplane oil too as those guys really can't afford an engine failure.

The test just gives me piece of mind that I have a good machine. After I bought my used SLK230 and the test confirmed that the engine was great, I had perfect confidence taking long trips.

The video says change the filter and no the oil more often. Remember many years ago around 1972 there was a synthetic oil AMSOIL that was to be long lasting oil and they were saying change the filter a few times before changing the oil and the oil was suppose to last something like 10k or more.
