The end of a Cannonball Runner

I guess sooner or later we all end up in Arizona.

Ex-Cannonball Run Update: 1973 Mercedes Benz 450SE

9/30/2016 Update: More than two and a half years later, and this 1973 Mercedes-Benz 450SE has returned to the market, this time for a bit more than 30% less. It’s a cool car made all the more so by its participation in the original Cannonball Run, and though offered with minimal information this time around, condition looks to be much the same as in 2014–imperfect but still good for a fun driver. Previously advertised as including documentation of its Cannonball participation, it was also said to run and drive well. Find it here on Craigslist in Phoenix, Arizona for $5,980.

It’s pretty weird to see something like this offered at a place called Auto Mart Superstore, and we’re pretty sure it’d be the most interesting car on the lot even without Cannonball history. Dark green and color-matched AMG Pentas look great, and though the dark tint is probably very helpful in Arizona, we think the car would look better without it. The trunk lid has been de-badged apart from the three-pointed star, and condition looks very decent throughout.

Including inside the cabin. Upholstery and carpets still show quite well, though there are a few big cracks visible on the dash immediately above the glovebox door. Veneers appear to be in good shape, and an aftermarket cassette deck is complemented by a tape holder between the seats–we wonder what they listened to during the long, fast drive from Connecticut to Redondo Beach.
