VW sued for millions in patent royalties by ex Bentley CEO Schreiber, report says
FRANKFURT - Former Volkswagen Group executive and Bentley CEO Wolfgang Schreiber is suing VW for hundreds of millions of euros in royalty payments for his role in developing a dual clutch gearbox, Der Spiegel reported.
The German magazine, citing a lawsuit over patents filed in a Munich court, said Schreiber had turned down 20 million euros ($22 million) in compensation and was seeking "adequate" compensation.
The dual clutch gearbox is in use in millions of VW-branded passenger cars.
A Volkswagen spokesman confirmed Schreiber had formally demanded compensation from VW, but declined to comment on details such as the amount being sought, given that it is an ongoing and unresolved dispute.
Schreiber joined the VW Group in 1984. He was VW brand's head of transmission development from 1996 to 2003 when he transferred to Bugatti, where he was head of development until 2011. He was Bentley CEO from 2012 to 2014 when he was replaced by Wolfgang Duerheimer.
