The Dreaded low fuel light

Wasting petrol driving round testing this dash cam out and the dreaded fuel light comes on. So I divert via the petrol station and leave with a full tank but 80 pounds ( 121 USD) lighter in the wallet

The bright side is its a topless driving day here

The light hit me yesterday too.
I always only tank 20L from the low fuel light tho.
Did 226 km out of 20L this time. 8,8l/100km!

Thanks for putting things in perspective. Here I was bemoaning a fill up of 18 gallons (US) for the staggering price of $ 72.18 (£47.75.) That sure doesn't sting nearly so much now.

...Filled up the Long Ranger on a job last thursday (stopped of at Yeovilton on the way back from Cornwall) - thick end of 400 litres of Jet A1 - luckily, as it was an MOD base they bill the company direct .... On the way down it was 300 litres at Kemble and that went on the credit card .... (the company are really good about paying ex's and they transfer the money back to you the same day for off site fuel purchases!!!)

On a normal note, mines always around the £80 to fill up from the light - it normall comes on at around 320 miles unless I've been playing....

Cheers
Sean

I picked up my new (to me) car and, surprise, surprise the light was already on - guess I should about thought about screwing a tank full out of MB. Anyway I decided to see if I could get home on it but ended up chickening out.

Bearing in mind for the last 10yrs I had a Smart Car (awesome little fella) so you will understand how close to crying I was as the fuel pump just didn't bloody STOP! Honestly, I even looked under the car

The best £84 I ever spent on fuel and SO much fun seeing how quickly I could get rid of it - still cry at the station though!

Ohh I had a different experience when I picked mine up, I was expecting the same treatment as you, but then the guy said, "The cars almost ready, just popping over to Shell to fill her up for you"..

Once I'd picked my chin off the floor, I said thanks..

But yeah, as I fill up with Super Unleaded at about £1.45 a litre and with a 70 litre tank, I can kiss goodbye to close to £100 if I let it drop real low..

I got two full tanks out of MB - one when I picked mine up from Bremen, then another, 5 days later when I picked it up from from my local dealer after dropping it off for its PDI. (Always strikes me as odd when you do a factory collection, Mercedes finest have put your car together, but your local dealer still have to 'check it out' ).

400l eh Sean.. that would just about get the -300 to the runway. We used circa 35000l on the crossing last night (M.79, FL390).

gas is running around $1.40 for premium here - I look forward to filling up soon! We've had a rule since we bought Kismet - no whining about how much it costs to fill up. Total buzz kill.

I know .. Small beer in the long haul world .. Most of my theory stuff ( a while ago now...) was based on the 737 .. Seemed totally pointless at the time ( how many rotary jobs involve cruising at FL 300 and setting up an INS ..? We just took most of the zeros off the fuel calcs and they seemed much more like what we use ..

Anyway .. Back to 4 wheels on terra firma ...

Cheers

I have a fuel genie card with a £250 a month limit. Unfortunately I've already reached it this month what with ferrying teenagers about for the past few weeks while their mopeds have been repaired.

I'll have to pay for the next fill up myself unless I can eke it out until the end of the month. Unlikely.

If we were still at work I couldnt afford to run the SLK as a daily car. As it is I try to avoid it as a local runabout. A full tank doesnt last long when you down to 20 mpg
