The reception may be 80% gone but the car should looks really darn good with the SL antenna.

Yeah, its a shame about the reception. I would swap mine out in a heartbeat if the loss was minimal. Sure does look good.

i have a shorty too. radio reception is ok, doesn't much matter to me as generally i listen to cds, but the loss of range for the smart key is what bothers me most.

I agree it looks better. I also have reception problems in the London area.
However, I am pleased to say that the Sat Nav is not affected.

I do admit the SL one looks better than the longer r170 stubby antenna, my problem is I still listen to morning talk shows driving to work and radio reception is important to me. The r170 works just fine, no noticable reception lost, but the key fob range did decrease. But that doesn't bother me b/c I usually lock/unlock my car next to it so I can see it unlock/lock.

Great job HwoALanG, it does look alot better the whip antenna, you can keep that in your trunk and use it against road ragers if necessary.

Maybe Zeiser50 can chime in, since he incorporated an auxilliary antenna into the rear bumper.

You should give the R170 antenna a shot. I just got mine yesterday and haven't noticed a difference in reception between the R170 and stock R171.

(Could be because I'm in Hawaii and all radio stations are nearby anyway)

My reception was equally limited/bad with both the R170 and R230 antennae.
