My Dad had one when I was in high school (his was a 1960, that's a 1959 -the 1960 didn't have the tail lights in the fins but otherwise was very similar). I took my first driver's license test in it. The test evaluator was so enamored with the car that he didn't pay a lot of attention to my driving. The car got about 8 miles per gallon. It was smooth and fast.It went through tires and mufflers about every 10k miles (Midas provided a lifetime guarantee on mufflers then so they lost money on this car) - no mechanical issues though - built like a tank. Dad used to trade new cars every year, but he kept that Cadillac until 1967. It was a great car.

I also have a lot of Cadillac memories. My dad was a Cadillac man and bought a new one almost every year. Fleetwoods were dad's favorites. Model years 56-61 are very cool, but the older pre-war beasts are incredibly beautiful. I owned a couple of late models DeVilles and they were nice cruisers. Not sure about the new model styling, but Cadillac is always innovative....wish I would have purchased a new XLR-V. If they come out with a new roadster I'm there!
