Prestige pricing??

Calling the SAME import company with the SAME auto body shop, and this is what I got:

Service(Ford): Mike Raisor Ford, how can I help u?

Me: What is the labor cost to swap a set of 18" wheels?

Service(Ford): It will be $66, no matter which make of the car.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Service(Mercedes): Mike Raisor Mercedes, how can I help u?

Me: What is the labor cost to swap a set of 18" wheels?

Service(Mercedes): It will cost $200 for us to do that.

man..

Just called them again, but different service adviser picked up the phone:

Service(Mercedes): Thank you for calling Mike Raisor, how can I help u?

Me: I would like to change my wheels, already got the new OEM wheels, how much for that?

Service(Mercedes): You will be looking for about half-hour, we charge $100 per hour, so that will be around $50

Me:Thanks..

you should post the number and we can all call and see how many prices we get! then after about 50 quotes, we copy and paste the stuff in the thread and email Mike Raisor

Doesn't surprise me at all.....not all businesses are as coordinated as you might think. Regardless of the facility, having a good relationship with the Service Manager and Mechanic goes a long way. If they know you well, I'm convinced you get better pricing and more attention to your vehicle.

I never fail to express my genuine thanks to the people who work on my vehicles. I let them know that I appreciate their expertise and value my relationship with them. Seems kind of corny, but remember that many customers are indifferent or even hostile. Most of these guys work very hard to do their best in an environment many of us would chose not to work in every day.

I'm totally agree with you Greg, I always give a big smile and let them know that I highly appreciate for their expertise, even though I don't go there very often, but job as Service Manager and Mechanic is not easy!

Great advice - I haven't had much contact at all with the Service Department at my local Mercedes Dealer, but I have with their Parts Department. I definitely agree with the treat them well philosopy. I've been there at least ten different times for various things, and they have given me some real discounts. I was buying an oil filter and they matched the WalMart price on oil. (Too bad they use ESP). Last week I bought an OCP cover to redo my R170 Homelink setup, and it was $17 online, they quoted me $18 over the phone, and sold it to me for $13.

Long Mercedes in Chattanooga - great guys - in Parts anyway !
